thanks mike, that seems to make sense.
time i got me a workshop manual..
meanwhile i\'ll fire off an email to the previous owner and ask if he\'s got any pointers.
anyone else got any top tips? i\'d love to hear them. maybe some fancy continuity-testing moves or something..? i\'d love an excuse to buy one of them. :)

i\'ve already ordered one mate. should be winging it\'s way to me now.

i did however think about asking if you had any experience with this wiring problem..?   the steering column arrangement is identical to the 1000.

the hazard switch is quite complicated if I recall correctly.

When not on the indicators are powered by an ignition live and either side are not linked but they do pass through the hazzard switch

when the hazard switch is on it switches the indicator flasher over to a permenant live and connects the two sides together.

I would guess you have lost the permenant (spelling :D ) live connection to your hazzard switch.

sounds fezable to me.

1. do you indicators work without the hazard switch on??

2. might need to replace flasher unit.

3. also check all the bulbs in the indicator circuit. there could be one that shit itself and gone to earth instead of blowing completely.
i had one do that on a customers car and melt the entire indicator circuit wiring.

4. check to see if ya have any globes in as the flasher relies on the earth going throught the globes

5. contacts in the switch may be corroded from the overseas trip. bit of emery paper will fix that.

wiring diagram for indicators and hazards hope this helps ;)  -

rx3 whats that??

flectron

wow thanks sim. :)
yeah indicators work when hazard switch is off (if \'in\' is off? it is in the 1000)

GOOD MAN :) :)

Really lookin forward to seeing yours and Gords cars in 2005 :D

l think your going to get more n more people into Oldskool when they see cars like yours:D
All the best Clive

MikeLMR

is it the old style round twin pin flasher unit ? my mates mk1 escort needed a new flasher unit just about every MOT as it used to have enough capacity to flash each side but wasn\'t man enough to flash both sides at once ! might be worth checking.

in the end we rewired it to use a modern multipin type flasher unit

I\'m lookin forward to coming along to these meets etc, I\'ve been lookin at the club vids/pic\'s and it looks like a top day out. Some damn nice 7\'s "not that I\'ve seen a bad 1 yet, but I\'m just biased when it comes to rotors:D ".

It would be nice if a revival of some sort started on the oldskool front, besides it can only be a good thing for the club, it all adds to the collection. All we need is someone to buy an R100, anyone up for that:D

MikeLMR

how much would an R100 end up costing once its on the road ... not sure if I want to know as I\'ll be tempted !

Hiya Mike,
Well I\'m not sure how much it would cost, depends on how often you would drive it,  would look good though next to your rx7, thats  a fine example you got there, how much did you fork out for it if you dont mind me asking?:D
