Does anyone know what the effect of the turbo control solenoid sticking open might be?

zevans

You mean the wastegate actuator control fellow?

Which turbo?

nikp

No, there\'s a solenoid/actuator called \'Turbo Control\' I believe it controls the transistion from 1st to both turbo\'s. I also undertsand that it bleeds off boost from the first to the second turbo to do this, but I might be wrong on that second point!

Hiya man, try this link - gives a good idea about the turbo control actuator and exactly how it should work - even a video of a faulty one!

What exactly are your problems - having turbo issues of my own at the moment.

I\'ve gained loadsa knowledge and useful stuff about the twin setup over the last few weeks! I suspect a faulty tc actuator or a charge control actuator is my problem.

Sorry - what link!!?

But anyway, my problem is that on the first turbo the boost is barely 0.5bar - which means that the second turbo will never come online (It\'s needs 7psi of boost). If i turn the ignition off, and on again (Basically bump starting it) momentarily i can get 0.7bar of boost. However, after getting that, it\'s back down to just under 0.5! grrrr.... Have found out that i had a leaky vacuum hose to the brake servoe, but i don\'t think it was that that was causing the problem.

So, basically....:( and

THEN CLICK .... HOW TOS, THEN SOLENOID TESTS...

I don\'t know what you\'ve tried so far but that definitely sounds like the 2 solenoids for the wastegate and the turbo control are plugged in the wrong way.....

try this...

remove the strut brace.....remove the p[ressure chamber and you will see 2 solenoids slightly towards the drivers side of the car..... they\'ll be sticking out from under the intake plenum - facing towards you. Quite often these two can be plugged in the wrong way around giving identical symptoms to your problem.
