I do find it a wee bit annoying that the LM win gets treated like a happy accident. Yes, all the other stuff that might have taken the result DID fall over or break down but the 787 ran fault free for the whole time and that is why it won - not Mazda's first attempt and the last year it would have been possible due to rule changes.  Of course Mazda have only won it once but then so have Aston Martin and nobody suggests that was a fluke do they.
