HKS Boost Controller - what model is this?

Hi all,

Just wondered whether anyone knows what model my HKS Boost Controller is - see attached. I\'m not sure whether it\'s a boost controller or an electronic valve control - same thing right?

Anyhow, I\'m trying to find out what model I have in the hope that I can get hold of the installation/instruction manuals. Incidentally there is a sticker on the back of the EVC which has VIII <5 numbers> on it, not sure if this is the product number or serial number or what.

Any help would be appreciated.

looks the same as mine, HKS EVC 4, also if you are stuck for the manual or set up thay can be found on the U.S. HKS web site which is simpley //www.hksusa.com once on the site go to FAQ along the top and in the next screen there is a thread with is calle "are hks boost controller manuals available online" (or something like that)
follow this and it takes you through to the set up of all hks EVC\'s

it is the HKS EVC 4 good unit i use it in mine

(its known as the "3" in japan thou for some odd reason)

As for the boost controller, did you have any problems setting it up on your car? I\'ve only driven my Rex once, since the turbo\'s blew-up the first day of driving it. Now that it\'s almost restored to to a working condition I think I\'m going to leave the controller turned off, just in-case it\'s not set for the correct boost levels. I\'ve tried reading the manual for the HKS 4 but I can\'t make much sense of it.

Have you got an RX-7... your name suggests you have a Pulsar, or Sunny (*think* they\'re the same thing?).

With regards to parts, the turbo repair has left me fairly poor    so any parts I buy will be essential stuff i.e. replacing broken parts.

I will probably be after some rear suspension bushes soon since mine are worn out - if you let me know e-mail address and phone number, I\'ll drop you a line if I have any requirements for parts

hiya fella,

ive an R (sunny , gtir, pulsar) all same thing mate

possibly gettign a rex but still need convincing on these engines, could most likely build one with all the parts iv got in the garage

may pop down to thesouthern meet soon ,

only prbs ive had with my HKS is that when setting it up you have to redline it, when this was done the turbo gasgets blew lol at 1.1bar

so took my car out of action for a while

pop down to Brooklands on sunday and see if you need more convincing, i will be there as well as most of the southern rotary peeps, so the info you will get will be invaluable.

How did you guys get on with configuring it?

Mine came with the car, but I don\'t know if it\'s set-up right :confused:  I\'ve tried reading what I believe to be the instructions, but they may as well be in Japanese... I assume a local tuner can sort it out for me, I don\'t know how much of a job it is. In the *manual* it says somethings about driving the car at top speed in 3rd gear and waiting to hear a bleep from the controller!?!? All sounds a bit psychotic to me.

I *think* if you just leave the controller switched off then the car will run at stock boost levels, so I\'m going to leave it off till I know what the deal is with the boost controller.

the R is abit unwell at the mo i think not 100% sure on if i will fix it before oh just drive it down there

hks ----- yeah you gota reset it with the littel swtich at the back then redline it in 3rd and wait for the beep

Still reckon I\'ll get someone else to do it. Don\'t want to sound like a wuss, but I\'ve just spend a lot of money and a lot of time getting my twins sorted - I\'m gonna look after them like they\'re my first born sons.  :rollin :rollin

Have got the same bc on my car but don\'t use it. Had an Apexi avcr on previous car and still unsure on which to keep. Yeah come down to Brooklands Matt, I may be going if all goes to plan
