I know it's tough carrying on when things go wrong, but you have done so well till now you cant stop now.

If the shaft size is the same on the MX-5 as the RX-8 can you not just use the MX-5 hub?

Think iv sussed it. The hub assembly for the rx8 and mx5 is identical, even where the bearing sits in. So I'm going to buy 2 x new rear bearings and press those, along with the rx8 hubs into the mx5 hub assembly, after removing the bearing and hub first obviously

The picture shows the diameter of the rx8 bearing and I measured the mx5 one and it was identical, 0.02 difference on the vernier but that's me measuring in slightly different place

Who would have thought swapping the rear end rx8 parts into an mx5 would be so hard

There are inserts that sit in the hubs, which are stuck onto my control arms (mx5 ones) that do not fit into the rx8 hub

This is one of the inserts that sits in the hub, they're a complete ball ache to remove, they either stay in the hub OR they come out stuck to the trailing arms

Absolute tw*** when they stuck in the arms

Final I have the rear end done!

As for rx8 and mx5 being the same, I disagree.

Bearings looks similar but are different.

Wheel hubs look similar but are different.

The insert sleeves that go into the hub carrier are different also. The inserts in them are 1 mm larger on the mx5 than the rx8 so do not press in. The mx5 inserts are also 5mm longer than the rx8s

Easiest way to swap and rx8 rear end into an mx5 is to buy a complete rear subframe from an rx8, strip it, clean it, paint it, new bushings and install.

Don't do what I have done it takes far too long.

The time, effort and money it takes to do what I have done I could have just had the rear end cut out and back halfed the car with a 9 inch diff.

Now I have to check the angles of the gear box and diff, get a prop shaft made and then work on solid mounting the diff and gear box.

Although I might do the brake lines before that.

Clutch slipper is mounted.

Reinstalled the standard brake and clutch pedal. The pedal box I bought was just too much work and required me to cut and alter part of the floor to move it into a central position.

My mates going to do me a roll cage

Few jobs knocked off my list

Can anyone tell me which outlet on the brake cylinder is for the front brakes and which is for the rear?

Or is it as simple as the one at the front is for the fronts? Thanks

Got myself a full bridge port, semi pp, fully balanced motor with a fancy billet Crank in. South Coast rotary complete Intake manifold too.

Roll cage is complete minus one bar as ran out of tube but have that now.

Last tube and parachute mounts going in next, and finishing off seat mounting. Then to make a nice gas pedal too.

I am now going to be using a Ford c4 3speed auto, as this engine is good for what ever power I want as it should be OK for up to 50psi and 12,000 rpm, although we aren't going to need that kind of boost.

With the car weighing not a great deal, it is only going to need around 600hp to crack a 9 second pass with ease

If you Google 1/4 mile et calculator and put in my car weight which will be around 2200 pounds, and any amount of hp it will calculate what the car is capable of, potentially
