Couple of months ago i replaced all 4 plugs with BUR9EQPs (Trailing & Leading).  Everything has been fine until this week (cold outside) and car has been a b**ch to start in the morning.

Cleaned the old 7s up (leading plugs) and put them back in last night. car fired up 1st crack this morning, problem solved :cool

Just goes to show... those 7s are in there for a good reason..

Cheers

Indeed !
In a country like th UK where it is quite cold tyhe 7s I would say are mandatory
However, I would do a compression check as well, as it might be you are a bit lower than you might think

I second that get a comp test done I start rx7\'s with 11\'s and other with 10s but most with 9\'s all roundanever had an issue with cold start, even when not started for weeks.

Had a comp test recently, showed about 6.5 BAR all-round.  Not good, not bad either i was told...

6.5 won\'t have any affect on cold start or warm start.

Maybe it\'s just us southerners who can get away with colder plugs... ;)

Could also be spark strength/battery level.

Funny :D !!!!

Plugs were brand new, New Magnecors as well.  Battery turned motor for a good 2 mins before car fired up....

I know i should really be thinking of re-build time before it pops

Riccardo

With a compression of 6.5 I would start thinking about a rebuild
If you have trouble starting the car, replace the two sparkplugs at the bottom with ones from the FC - you will have no trouble starting the car

I have had no problems starting the car since i put the \'7s\' in the leading holes, even this morning when i had to break ice off the car!

My old rex did the same.  Put some new plugs in it and it started 1st time, every time.  Plugs can be the key :)

I seem to have trouble starting mine unless there is a bit of temp in the air.  Could I need new plugs?

It turns over no probem but when it fires up it seems to drop revs down straight away (like 150 rpm!!  ) then goes back up to 1400. It doesnt go up to 3000ish for the initial warm up and runs quite lumpy untill it warms up? :(

Worth a shot.  Doesn\'t sound too serious IMO.... YET :D

Just read something about 7\'s and 9\'s, leading and trailing etc - im now confused!

Is leading and trailing just the fact that there are 2 plugs per rotor and one of them fires first?

Will I be able to see which ones go where?

And lastly, which plugs should I go for? (Car is used as an everyday car :)  )

sorry about all the questions :(

Leading is at the bottom of the engine and fires first and should be the 7.  Trailing fires 2nd, is top near the bonnet and should be the 9.

NGKs 7 & 9\'s are fine for a mostly standard car.  If if modded quite a bit, than you need colder plugs.  If they are not cold enough, the can over heat crumble and cause severe scoring in the rotor chambers

Get a garage to fit them as they are a complete pain in the ass.  If you must do it, get it up on axel stands and do it from below as you can get at them easily.   Do the leading first and then the trailing so you don\'t get them the wrongway around :D
