Yeah it's great to have the car back, but the coilovers really took the shine off the day.
Still more work to do on the body and a few interior jobs, but at least it's solid and legal now

For reference, the ones I bought were by maxspeedingrods lol
Trying to work out how they managed to get the firm yet bouncy

clive

If the dampers are adjustable then they may be on the softest setting,

This would make the car bouncy as the dampers are not controlling the springs.
All the best Clive

No adjustment in the damper, only ride height
Going to tinker with the ride height a little and see if it helps

re japi

Yep, they are the same. I have read basically only bad things about them...

However, my friend has those in his very low FC. Even tho they seem to be crap, ride was ok I think. Dunno yet, cause everyone said that they have massive differense in their quality

These have damper adjustments. However, in rallycross I have found out that even coilovers that are quite good, damper setup works in third of its range usually. Really expencive coilovers work in full range of adjutability

To work correctly, damper adjustment are thirdly option. Good dampers work when they are "shimmed"(dunno english word for it) correctly to cars corner weights. So then that adjustments thingy is just for minor correction to dampers behaviour. Secondary adjustment is spring it self

Power is nothing without control. Weight is enemy of performance, handling and braking.

These coilovers had massive preload setuo from factory. About 15mm. Usually basic setup is 4mm preload. I went for 0+mm. Lets see what it feels like. Cause with that 15mm preload, there is absolutely no initial softness left in spring. That could be your problem for bumpy ride, if you didnt check that setup

Usually these coilovers have too hard springs. These have 10kg in front and 8kg at back. And its far too stiff for comfortable street use.

I have option to get friends springs. Planning to test with 6kg/5kg setup. Maybe even softer at back

Thank you sir, I'll investimagate further
Can't really complain tho as they were only £80.00 delivered for the set when eBay had one of their 20% off deals

re japi

80£ delivered? Shit, I thought that I got them cheap 200â,¬ to Finland... ;D

Well, the truth is that crappy parts are still crappy even if you try to fix them  :)) But as I said, I choose get these parts just because I was able to "test" how they feel at my friends car. Before I purchased them I was aware that I might have to change springs and luckily friend has loads of extra springs at his garage.

One of friend is coilover specialist. I asked his opinion about setup for street car. Actually this same gent has teached me everything I know about suspension. Here is his answer, please use google translation  :))

Jarno
Could you do me a favour when you're next in the workshop, or maybe you already know this?

I'm looking for the spring length and diameter of the springs on coilovers.  Forgot to grab the measurements before I put the car into storage.
Want to order some softer springs and give them a try before, going for a full replacement

Faulkner springs should be able to help. I sourced some for Westy from them.
