The assembly the fuel pump sits in inside is fuel filter...these can get clogged over time...
Could be the fuel pot assembly ....a fuel pressure gauge will show this... or a momentary lose of power due to a cut in electrical power on a circuit...which is why i suggest checking all the earths. Engine and fuse box earths.
Happy hunting.

I ordered the fuel pressure gauge and it never showed up. The company didn't even take the money out the account even though I had the confirmation email...
I was thinking the other day where it had gone.
Going to reorder

I have now linked the earth points on the front and rear of the car. I also added an extra earth onto the fuel pump loom which goes to the chassis at the back and connects to the engine bay.
Yet to swap the fuel pump due to my daughter projectile vomiting

Tonight's job was to fit the AEM fuel pump.

I had an issue where the filter on there was a bit dirty and no matter how much I tried I couldn't get the dirt out of the filter.
The filter also has a plastic bar which sits right across the opening and would probably cause a restriction.

So I looked at modifying the pump bracket to accept a different style filter.

The type of filter I've put on there is less restrictive (hopefully) and a fairly common size /type. The mazda variety is a bit of an oddball.

I could visibly see bubbles in the high pressure filter which moved from top to bottom so I'm fairly happy that filter isn't blocked.

Any body know what the VE tables control on the rx8?

I've got a few values which go up to 15-16. Might explain the lean running at low rpm

Hopefully this is the right size. This time lucky

Prior point i raised early cars didnt have the code for ssv failure to operate which was why i took an age to find my issue...i swapped ecu popped a code a fix in 20 mins.I run this early ecu as its been mapped for 1100rpm.
I have a spare ecu set with immobilser and key that defo has the ssv software onit ...happy to send to you to try?
Looks like you have the switch but not the software for it in the ecu...

Boosted, do you know what year the software was included?

Annoyingly despite re doing all of the earths I'm still getting the misfire at 4.5k and 6k. Now I started to monitor the voltage and vacuum (pressure) whilst driving.

Voltage is pretty much a steady 14.1-4 v throughout. Although I remember seeing 10v the other week on the pcm feed?!

And the vacuum is a bit of a strange one in my eyes....
It is negative (vacuum) under light accelation and cruising, however if I accelerate hard it goes into positive figures i.e boost.
Now being a naturally aspirated engine, it should always be vacuum?!

I'm wondering if the vacuum chamber is emptying itself and that is what is causing my misfire at 4.5k as the solenoid is struggling to switch.

Help!

Well done. the tail pipes are just right, any shorter and it would have droned in the cab. Racing Beat make three different length tail pipes because of this.

The SSV problem was a mechanical thing as the valve used to get carboned up, so I'm guessing you know that that's free to move OK
All the best Clive
