Im sure Clive wont mind me posting...Clive gave me a ring on his way home znd although not quite the results he was looking for...which we all know was win 1 win 2....and looked like he was going to...
Clive was buzzing as he is really happy with car as its now. Power and balance. From his conversation cant wait for the vids as he had a lot of fun.
Theres no damage to fix but alittle work on the brakes to be done but ill let Clive explain that.
But just letting everyone know  all ok...car got fastest lap too.

Silverstone 7th April race report.
Qualifying went OK but felt there was more in the car to come, 3rd on the grid with 4 tenths covering the first three of us so I knew it would be close.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing and after qualifying I added fuel, putting one ten litre can in and then started putting another in and it ran all over the place and would not take more, also a checked the fuel gauge and that said full and still did at the start!

Having the higher diff ratio that went in last week, I thought, let’s give it a few more revs and promptly lit the tyres up and had to lift off to find grip to go again, played Mr sensible going through Copse but then picked them off to bundle into Maggots and blocked them off as best I could. You will see on the video that I then had a great race swapping the lead again and again racing inches apart with Rich Hockley with his super quick Integra Powered Civic, until lap 11 of 14 when the engine suddenly cut out. Turns out the gauge must have read wrong due to an air lock and found the car would only limp on minimal revs. I kept going because I realised that any position stopped me starting from the back of the grid and limped home in 8th.

Between Races we put in a staggering 42 litres of fuel, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! Stupid thing is, before I went out I kept saying I am sure I should have been able to get more fuel in, chances are that if I had tried again, say 10 minutes after it would have taken more fuel regardless of what the gauge was reading.

Race two was a bit more interesting at the start and I was very conscious of the Civic getting a big lead before I could get to him. I had a Subaru on the second row that with his 4wd must have made a good start to lead into the first couple of corners and by the time I worked my way past the other seven cars the Civic was off and gone, so it was head down time to go get him.

Coming out of Luffield I had way too much wheel spin in the first race but just 2 lbs out of the rear tyres cured this and helped launch the car out through Woodcote and little by little I reeled the quick Civic in and got the lead, a lead I was 100% sure I could keep, but then my brakes started to fail, first the pedal went half way down telling me I now only had rears, then literally no pedal any more as I wore the rear brakes to nothing apparently the rear discs were by now glowing red hot.

The last lap was interesting, going as fast as I could with no brakes at all and twice I though a crash was on the cards. The outcome was to lose 3rd literally on the line!

I panicked more in the pit lane when I thought I was going to run the marshal over who was directing me when I realised that even at 10mph the car would not stop :'(.

Always prided myself on being kind on brakes but this time with three big braking areas even the race pads I had that were new before the few laps of a track day were totally worn out, so they effectively did two qualifying’s and two races  :-[.

OK, here’s the event positives.

Essentially, I wore the brakes out because I am carrying much more speed down the straight now.

I actually won the two trophies for first in class in each race plus I finally received my trophy for winning the Championship last year, but best of all, I found  a second in the second race which gave me fastest laps overall in both races which I had never managed before.

Wow the thing finally has some grunt now and I don’t think I have ever been this happy with any race car, just got to get the discs skimmed, some better race “endurance” pads fitted plus cooling ducts fitted front and rear.

Here’s an interesting comparison I made which also made me happy (even though I lost two overall wins)

Rod Birley who is the winningest driver in the UK with his  Ford Escort WRC  (4wd, 600bhp and on slicks) set a 1:02 in his Race, that he won against some crazy machinery on Saturday.

This is compared to my 1:05 on 470bhp on Road based track day tyres and no sequential gear box, means that if I was on a decent set of slicks I should be able to find a comparable time.

To me this puts it into prospective that we now have a very quick car, just got to make it finish at the sharp end more regularly!

Huge thanks must go to all you good people out there who have helped and supported me to get the car up-n-running and now competitive :icon_thumleft:
All the best Clive

Wouldn't worry too much Jon, I have sold DS3000 for FD's for probably 18 years with never a complaint,

You have to  think I had 3 BIG braking area's per lap trying to slow the car from well over 100 mph each time which obviously generated a huge amount of heat

The car will now start sprouting brake cooling ducts front and rear, never needed them before, TILL NOW !

It will make the car carry more weight, but that's the only way I'm going to find out how much fuel I need.

If you remember, I even pulled out the fuel pot and connected it out of the car to make sure it read zero, which it did  ???

I think you have too...shes gotta be in single figures mpg wise...60l tank...im sure someone clever could do some sums...

re japi

She loves to drink  :13: damn...

How was rear tyres, losing grip in end of the race?

Still, very well done Sir  :sign0098:

Tyres were good and predictable, so pleased I stayed with the Toyo R888R as I looked into changing these over the winter for other brands,
