MX-5 NC with RX-8 231 Engine

Definitely misfiring slightly. Held revs at 3k and every now and again it pops.
Is now dropped down to idle and its mis firing every 5 seconds and struggles. Idle then raises back up

No not good...should be silky smooth rotary lovelyness..

So believe the code then which is misfire..
Flashing engine light is realtime active misfire.
So like any car diagnose misfire. Coils leads plugs fuel and air.
Do the basics first..plenty of fuel? Leads on nice and secure?
Then move on plugs getting spark etc you can swap coil pack around too. You have a 1 rotor misfire indicated by code swap the pair front rear see if code moves and swap leading to trailing...leading does majority of work.
D585 have failed. Also check the connections on the sub d585 loom and the earth connection.
With any fresh build pretty good idea to fit brand new coils...
Its big debate in other places but im a firm believer in oem. Rev c not heard any fail yet...
If you get stuck ive got a diagnose used good set of rev b.

Smoking gun that!!! Resistance check for end to end continuity? Wrap up in insulation tape til you get another set? Move that leads coil to trailing..mx8 xmas lights in the dark...

I had flashing light for misfire.
Leads I wasn't overly happy with, some didn't feel great. Coils have 40k ish on.
Plenty of fuel.
Not checked fuel pressure but will do.

I did check all sub loom connectors and they seemed to be OK.

Going to pick up a set of Ht leads from euro car parts. Hopefully they fit.

They are magnacor annoyingly. Previous owner really did not look after the car.

What's rev c and rev b?

D585 have a different coil connection to oem
Not sure euro will be upto speed with mods...
Rotary Revs is probably you best bet for new set sent quickly.

Oem coils had uogrades from mazda a b and c. C being latest revision.

Id wait for Clive..as a member youd get discount and he will send out quick over chrimbo for you.
So you want to use car.
Id resistance check end to end to make sure ok...the fact the insulation has broke down suggest some mishandling damage and the lead has been arching done to earth.
If you can restore that insulation with insulation tape...gert fatty wrap...should be fine to use.
Mazda state 30k on plugs...i change at 9k. Rev c coils should be good for 25k plus. D585s are good our r3 had them but never started good always rough idea til warmed up abit ..i swapped to oem and lovely.
