Tried 3 different style brackets now, the boot is really low and close to the  top of the tank, it leaves the filler neck and rubber connecting pipe almost horizontal that I'm concerned the fuel will run backwards

Oh yeah

It's difficult to reach the tank from the boot

Hey Jon, I hear what you're saying..........

I wish it was that simple, or maybe im over complicating things......

Anyway its been playing on my mind all night, I got up at stupid o'clock to take pics to show you what im up against.

A - possible new locations, shown, I can enlarge the existing aerial hole or fill it up and cut a new one. I prefer the higher position though.

B - See the entry point for fuel, I've capped off the previous location - but more importantly whatever I do, Im going to need to get the tank in and out at certain points.

C -Cant use the existing filler cap location, because of my plans for the new wings.

D - Shows the gap between the rollcage rear strut brace and the underside of the boot rain gutter

E - Flexi Pipe pointing to the drivers side which could be fed by previous 2 location suggestions, if it was longer..........

F - Prefer the look of the new cap, and Im not opposed to the location,

G - Plenty of room, and a decent "fall" for the fuel into the tank.

H - Was thinking here ???? As an alternative, and clean up the outside appearance rather than filler caps on show.

J- Yes I missed "I" ..... anyway, a method of electrical tape, it may work, stronger than my welds haha, but going off your suggestion Jon.

..........need another post!

I'll try adding the pics this time ....

I need more coffee !!!

Anyhoo, last couple..

K - I can extend the pipe, but ergonomically it feels weird reaching in, putting the forecourt nozzle and 3 metres of pipe in the boot lol, and ....... it sits too horizontally, and as you can see I cant go up further without making everything else worse...

L - tried the same idea with the flexi pipe, but because the boot slopes down the further back, the lower it needs to be, then the fuel ends up in the boot.

I could pop the filler cap out the top of the boot like a blower on the bonnet of a hot rod and make a feature of it.......

What would you do Jon, please don't say buy a different car hahaha

This is a perfect example of rushing something.

With hindsight, what I should have done was make the tank and leave all the holes out of it.

Mock it up in the car, then plan properly where everything should route.

I went the other way because I didn't want to have to cut new holes in a sealed tank and have dust a swarf floating about inside.

Oh well, it was my first fuel tank, lessons learned, everyday is an education as they say .

Ive got the same filler neck, the rubber seal perishes or falls out, i wrapped the filler thread with PTFE tape now and no more leaks or fuel smells.
back to tank...um i think youve gotta use existing filler hole and change the orientation of the tank inlet so it works so yep tank has to come out.
I think ive had my fuel pot out 50 to 60 times in early days getting it right so sometimes is just trial and error.  :dontknow:

i ve got a spare filler neck minus cap if any help to you i had to buy another as lost the cap at a filling station when i forgot to put on in my excitement.

Due to how I need to make the bucks /patterns for the new wings ( I wont bore you with the details ) the existing filler hole is not an option, however I could open up the aerial hole and the inlet points in the right direction, the aerial hole wont be used for an aerial, and its further inboard.

But I still have a problem with height if Im not careful due to the curvature of the car......

..... I hate it! wish I bought a van ! lol

Well,
I have a solution.

Ive put some detailed pics up of the process below, just in case someone takes any inspiration from it and wants to create something similar, not just for a filler cap, but a recessed section in general.

So, new location, old filler cap hole filled up.
