Ok cool, ill do that....

Makes more room too, the engine bay is tight.

Pics of the tank below.

designed to fit above the diff between the rear wheels and mounted on the roll cage cross bar behind the seats.

Natural taper of the car body allows fuel to drain to the "sump"

Tank capacity is 85 litres, sump capacity is 1.5 litres

Outlet to the in line pump is at the bottom of the sump, return pipe feeds back into the sump through the "drain hole", the thought process was making an in tank swirl pot. The sump is always full of fuel, by gravity from the main tank and the return line from the FPR (get me!!)

At 1.5 litres it probably wont need anymore baffles, I doubt much fuel will escape back out the 25mm "drain hole"

Ive left all the internal baffles in the main tank at this stage but will probably be a huge X baffle from corner to corner with some gates or holes in certain place.

Thoughts?

Lol

Previous variants were 58 litres and 46 litres.

Decided to make it fill up the area behind the seats,

May have more room for the standard fuel level senders albeit leant over a bit.

Yeah, it's a bit pricey, but looking on the bright side, the tank is low, and it's putting the weight in the middle of the car.

Hoping to fit the pump and filter underneath behind the drivers seat, and the battery on t'other side under the tank.

Enough about me, gonna have a peek at the westy.......

Power is nothing without control. Weight is enemy of performance, handling and braking.

Hey Re Japi

Lotus didn't have the best reputation for reliability, but Colin Chapman, was a clever man back in the day.

Lots of individuals have slated me for "ruining" a traditional British sport scar.

My take on it is, everything can be improved upon, and following Colin Chapman's mind-set back in the day of pulling stuff out of parts bins and making them work. I'm sure if he was still alive today he too would use a rotary power plant as he was all for lightweight vehicles over huge HP.

I'm aiming for around 700-800 Kgs all in. I still have lots of lightening to do, even though its fibreglass, the doors feature 1960's technology of  electric windows and each door weighs as much as a nuclear power station....... its ridiculous!

The reason I choose a Lotus Elan was it was my ex bosses car, I got the complete car for £1000, and to be fair, it was in a sorry state, I bought a non running RX8 for £700. Weirdly, im not sure if its the colour, but the lines and the stance reminded me of the Mazda 110 Cosmo, cogs started whirring and I decided to amalgamate the 2.

The rest they say is history
Weeeeellll, does any british car have reputation to be reliable

For me, I love old school stuff. And I do like swaps. But I dont like if some rapes rare car. Howerer,  I dont think Elan is that rare and iconic,  so I think you are good to go

Amazing fabrication stuff! Good job. Hopefully some day I can see her finished...

With that, chassis and engine,  that weight and weight distribution,  that car is going to be awesome

As for carb stuff,  I dont know nothing about turbos, ecus and that electrical stuff. And I started to do rebuild with all those stuff, so I think Im in trouble

Thanks for the link Japi

....and the kind words, I just wing it, I think about it a few times, think what the knock on effect is coz any decision is bound to change 4 or 5 other variables. I don't like going wrong and doing stuff all over again. I like to do my homework, and this place is a font of knowledge!

I started the build on Boxing Day last year, I think the build will see another couple of Boxing Days yet, finances permitting.

Boosted! saw your vids on "the tube of you" pretty impressive stuff!

As for your quote of "I crash a lot".....well youre not hanging about, you blast past everything in sight, you give everyone a friendly wave of thanks, your helmet is bobbing about like a nodding dog, so you must be getting some "G's" on the bends.

I just waiting a phone call from upstairs at work to see why Im browsing 161 pages of a westfield build on my internet history LOL!

I think Im more impressed that you managed to shoe horn that engine into a westy!

For a small engine, its still tall with all the air intake and oil filler neck.

Ive had to make a few incisions in my stock bonnet to get it to close, more fibreglassing ahead!

Thankfully my sump is 5mm up from any chassis rails. I set the suspension pick up points on the chassis so I can run a 5" ride height on the underside of the chassis to the floor without all the arms pointing at stupid angles and upsetting the handling. If possible I want this car road legal so need to consider speed humps and pot holes down my road.

That's a 1" drop from the standard lotus, so everything moves up inside the car and the roof is only 47" off the floor.... GT47 ??? nah

Bit of a squeeze for a tubby like me hahaha

Im planning on running a full front to back underfloor diffuser to try and get a bit more suck down at speeds, but that will be trial and error once its running.

And you cant lose your license !

I went to Merlin Motorsport for some roll cage tube earlier this year, there was an owners day or track day going on.

Police with zapper guns everywhere on the country lanes surrounding Castle Combe trying to pick off individuals who still have adrenaline from the day
