Just realized, I actually dont know why I dont like Lotus

Anyhoo, do you know how much that thing is going to weight?

Colin Chapman invented the go fast formula " added lightness"....pretty much a pioneer in aero too when lotus where in F1.

Gotta love a Lotus! Silly boy Jarno!!!lol  :13: even though i thought it was a p1800 The saint car ha ha but i didnt have my glasses on...

I do know what Mr Chapman did. He is true inventor and genious. But his road cars, for some reason I dont like them, except 7... Yeah, Im a weirdo

Power is nothing without control. Weight is enemy of performance, handling and braking.

Lol...if we all liked the same thing life would be boring..

Btw, my opinion, most impressive thing that Chapman did, was inventing/using mono...(i dont know how to type it)..qoc structure/chassis...

Hey Re Japi

Lotus didn't have the best reputation for reliability, but Colin Chapman, was a clever man back in the day.

Lots of individuals have slated me for "ruining" a traditional British sport scar.

My take on it is, everything can be improved upon, and following Colin Chapman's mind-set back in the day of pulling stuff out of parts bins and making them work. I'm sure if he was still alive today he too would use a rotary power plant as he was all for lightweight vehicles over huge HP.

I'm aiming for around 700-800 Kgs all in. I still have lots of lightening to do, even though its fibreglass, the doors feature 1960's technology of  electric windows and each door weighs as much as a nuclear power station....... its ridiculous!

The reason I choose a Lotus Elan was it was my ex bosses car, I got the complete car for £1000, and to be fair, it was in a sorry state, I bought a non running RX8 for £700. Weirdly, im not sure if its the colour, but the lines and the stance reminded me of the Mazda 110 Cosmo, cogs started whirring and I decided to amalgamate the 2.

The rest they say is history

I can see that your a fabricator ! Air intake good idea to fit 1 of the rx8 air straightners.in your intake. (Sieve mesh circular thingy)..sorts out the airflow so the maf can get a proper reading...without throws lean codes.
Your gonna be quick at 850kg ! My westy is 560kg and accelerates like a cbr600...

Hey boosted,

Not booster like the other night, damn fat fingers!

If you revert to the pic with the intake, you'll see a shot of a aluminium 90 degree bend.

On either end of that bend there's a silicone coupler with a bellow in it, there's both the sieve mesh thingys installed either end of the 90 bend inside the bellow, I pulled the other mesh out of the air box and tried to keep them as close to the original distance apart as the stock set up.

But really appreciate the heads up  :13:

It's wiring and plumbing that freaks me out, fabricating and CAD is simple, I've built a few cars and motorbikes

Had a red top Vauxhall powered mk1 escort estate featured in classic ford magazine and made the front cover...... But that's not for this site lolll

.......but this is my first rotary, first project with fuel injection........ It's all alien, almost witch craft......like the womb!

Lol...opposite to me then...love the efi and wiring...carbs get me all confused my mig is good but tig no ..when you get to wiring i can steer you in right direction, send you a drawing to cut the loom down to bare minimum lightweight loom .

You're Ace!

Clive said you're a good egg too!

Carbs are "analogue" haha.

Well, one good offer deserves another, so like wise, if you need any TIG stuff knocking up I can help, or you need any CAD stuff doing, maybe you need to get some stuff laser cut, I can send you the DXF's and works drawings across.

Right, im off to look at the plumbing on the fuel lines on the RX8 manuals, somebody not to far from here told be theres no fuel return line to the tank, so thats blown my design apart lol

Cool thanks i have a habit of crashing!!!, the fuel design is simple. The fuel pot hoses the pump in the middle it pulls up loops back into the body that houses a filter and out of that into a fpr at 4 bar...(not 40psi as i think i said earlier got psi and bar round wrong way). It vents into tank and incorporates a syphon that pulls fuel over from the other side of the saddle tank on the 8.
Mine house the rx8 fuelpot  into the tank albeit with a longer body to scavenge from the bottom of the tank. So it is returnless but no issue having an engine bay fpr and running a return...think about a swirlpot. Rotaries are thirsty and i have a 25l tank that i pretty much have to refill at 8l else i risk fuel cut in corners...which on a lightweight car is enough to lock the rear wheels up!!!! Scary Mary time

Ok ill ping a design image across shortly for you to vet it.

I need to get used to these acronyms for car parts too. Theres plenty in the manuals too  :-X ::) :( :dontknow:

No shame in crashing! just stay alive !!!

I see youve still got the airpump on the engine you can junk that too...emmisions stuff for the cat..save some weight. Cap the vacuum end and manifold.
