Just took it for a 20 mile run up into 6th gear on the ring road, all good.
Still no speedo.
Going to limit the revs on mazda edit tomorrow. Loads of codes keep coming up, need to zero out dtc's!

Did a bit more research and looks like I'll be swapping abs rings....
88mm vs 96.5 od.
Luckily they're both the same id.

Not the prettiest but they fit.
For the record rx8 and mx5 hubs are not the same. Rx8 has a much larger cut out for the sensor and is also sat further back away from the ring.
As it stands currently the sensor sits at the same distance from the ring as the mx5 sensor. May have to space it slightly if it won't work with mx5 ring.
The sensor reads 1.38 instead of 1.03 or what ever it was. So hopefully that'll do it. Going to test with scanner tomorrow.
(drive shaft isn't pushed all the way in that pic which is why it looks off)

Did you get the reading from manually turning the driveshaft as the piccy suggest?
Always wondered if speed signal comes from abs unit as as a sum of all 4 abs sensors or just 1..ifso which 1 as all good for knowledge.

For future reference if anyone has a stroke of madness and does this conversion. You have to drill out the old sensor hole to around 18-20mm.
Drill a pilot into the mx5 sensor and core through the hub. Rx8 sensor bolts straight in and connects to mx5 wiring. Leave mx5 abs/reluctor rings in place
