re japi

Power is nothing without control. Weight is enemy of performance, handling and braking.

Getting ready for Brands next week  :) Went to Team Hard's workshops and collected a few sets of this years spec BTCC tyres the owner Tony Gilham donated to me, including a set of the soft option tyres with the white Dunlop markings. As these are the faster tyre those who follow BTCC will know they can only run these for one race out of the three races per event.

The car is of a similar weight to a BTCC car and the RX-8 is kind on its tyres so hopefully they will live OK.

Stripped the 4.4 Diff out today and tomorrow I will change the Kazz diff into the 4.3 diff which should give it more speed on the straights.

Turns out the racing is across Saturday and Sunday but I have still yet to see the actual program for the proper schedule.

Going to have to relearn the grip levels in qualifying but with more BHP and more grip available I am really looking forward to seeing what lap times the car will produce.   Got to be better than the 54.487 on Toyo's from the beginning of the year  surely  ::)

No grip for a lap then limpit grip...thats how the Westy is on slicks.
I looked on ebay for btcc slicks none on there. Think id have more oil in the catch tank  than sump with my current set up mind.
Is this Thunder series rolling start? Would have thought so.

Hi Jon,

Going to be a challenge find the grip limits in qually  but don't worry I raced on 10" wide slicks for years and any of them normally take two laps to get them alive, which is why you see so many first corner accidents ::)

The Allcomers series I may do a couple of weeks after are rolling starts, so I'm not worried by that but until race day I don't actually know if the Thunder Saloons do this or standing starts.

The format of these events is across two days, so I will have qualifying Saturday and Racing then I suspect a warm up on Sunday then more Racing.

Hope so, I need 2 seconds at least to be competitive
Just hope the gearing's OK as the BTCC tyres are a little bit bigger in diameter than the Toyo's

Tyre warmers---------- you bring the genny and I'll bring me hair dryer  :00123101:

All set for the weekend, just hoping the huge slicks don't rub  and we don't have too much of this below ;)

Parked up at Brands ready for the weekend, the Scooby and the Skyline are there running more power than they do in Track attack and a Team Hard BTCC car will be in my class (they were testing all day!)

Should be interesting racing plus its looking like rain, after a dry all weekend prediction !!!

For those following on TSL

Tomorrow qualifying is at 10.30 with the race on at 14.15.

Sundays race is now at 12 midday
All the best Clive

Casey

Was hoping to get to see you race on Sunday Clive, but my son and fiance have just called to say they are coming over to stay for the weekend so I won't be able to make it on Sunday as I'd hoped.

Good luck for the weekend - that's some serious competition, and your slicks won't help if it's raining  :(
