At tick over its not charging your right Casey, i noticed that after re-wire. I estimate Clives pulling 60 amps and Clive has bought a Clip on Ammeter to check the running load. It may need pulley size altering for peak RPM...which would further effect low rpm charging.
The failure was a burnt out diode whether thats overload or wear and tear as 3.5 years its been on there is the million dollar question.
Sunday lights and wiper were on additional load. Plus the Fans are on a manual switch which is more load....
Hence the purchase of an ammeter to check the running load.

Update, Cars now back up and running for Snetterton on Sunday with a repaired altonator.

Diodes were burnt out, more air feed to the back of the alternator has been suggested.

I have not done an amp meter draw test yet Jon but the car seems to be charging higher now on its fast tick over than all season, so I suspect its been dying for a while

Is the batt light now working? Also with the ignition switch bridged...and you using battery isolator to shut off the alternator its shunting the power down through the ground resistor...wondering if this is a causing alternator some grief?...obviously cant put it back in circuit where i put else youll knock it but wondering if worth putting back in elsewhere ?

Don't worry, Battery lamp working OK now and the lamp is wired correctly as per the diagram above.

All set for Snetterton, got my wet dry, wet dry, wet dry, tyres fitted, just like the weather forecast, god knows whats going on with my tyres, so no idea what tyres i'm going to need.

Also ive been thinking more on alternator...think best to switch 044 off to kill engine rather than master?

Yep, done that one in the past on an uncertain track

For the alternator, we can rewire as turning the pumps means the engine takes a while to stop. But if you thing it would help the alternator somehow I will turn the pumps off then the master under normal circumstances.

Longterm need to re-instate the ignition switch you put a permenat link in...flying wires and switch elsewhere that position i put it you hitvit off changing gears remember? ...but it gives the car a natural run down with battery still in circuit.  The  master is a shutting off everything and the current going down through that shunt resistor connected to master switch so its quite an abrunt way to deal with run out current from the alternator.
