Even though I had already cut loads and loads out of the rear doors when I built the car, I decided to attack them again to get the rest of the lump of roll bar that forms the B pillar out and then 3 hours later with a slitting disc and another 5 Kilos has been taken off the weight of the car  :D

Before and after below. (still got to tidy and paint )

Getting serious now

Iv have a larger array of holesaws if you need them.

Iv seen what they used to do to drag cars way back when! Every panel on the inside was like the holiest of holy Swiss cheese

Thanks Grant, however once the boot lid has gone other than plastic doors, which I am not going to do as the doors now weigh just about nothing, there's not much that can now be chopped out or holed, bearing in mind on a circuit car I cant have the body flexing around.

However I have a long term plan "If" the car gets through this season I will get rid of the sound deadening that's still all over the floor pan and then, funds permitting, take out the super heavy Safety Devices bolt in cage and make an FIA spec T45 weld in cage.

Starting to work on small "cheap" mods now for the next race.

I had been using a piece of Lake Land oven heat film in the footwell but it came unstuck and I burnt my foot badly in the second race, so I have a sheet of Zircotec heat shielding to shroud the exhaust/waste gate which should help footwell temps but also help gear box temperatures.

Also going to try some more underbody Aero. When you look along the bottom of an RX-8 it pretty much has a flat floor which is good for Aero, I have the big front splitter and rear diffusers at the back but probably a lot of turbulence around the rear suspension.

I had the car up on a ramp yesterday and realised that I can attach alloy sheet to the rear lower arms which should give straight airflow from the floor pan to the diffusers and "hopefully" more downforce overall which will mean more grip  :great:
I will put some pics up once I have done this incase the above does not make sense.

With regards too aero, is it beneficial too have the rear wing protruding out passed the rear of the car as feasibly as possible so that when the air has passed the wing any drag it creates would happen away from the rear bumper?
Bit hard to explain, might try do a drawing

Light years away from that sort of time, nursing a slipping clutch all day at  1.21 as a fastest lap !.

Later on this year if I can get some BTCC slicks off of team Hard then I will see what the car will do with  some proper grip

Just looking at last years Coombe times and my fastest lap was a 1.17 so hopefully it will be quicker this year  ;)
