I agree, RX-8 ECU's  are very reliable, so why did this blow? In my experience with computer electronics, the most common cause of electronics failure is power supply issues - power spikes or over-voltage. I still have a niggling feeling of the alternator running too high an output and the ECU power regulator is unable to cope. Could be completely wrong, but an ECU failure is very unusual.

Spoke with Jon this morning and checked a couple of things out,

Not actually driven the car but no codes showing in the ECU, also checked the battery as I had a different battery.

Still showing 12.6 volts. Balanced charged correctly with a 13.88 end voltage so it looks like no spike from this.

Still looks like it was something screwed in the ABS system from when I had the rear sensors disconnected  ???

Did you check the voltage output from the alternator at idle, and over the full rev range of the engine?

I watch the dash mounted Volt meter all the time because the alternator shows a discharge on tick over due to the size of the pulley not spinning the alternator fast enough.

On revs it produces 13.8 volts.

Have you by chance accidentally shorted the connector some how when disconnecting the ABS?

having looked at the technical manual for abs/tcs on here...the logical and safest way to disable dcs is the 30a dcs fuse and the way for dcs and Abs is the 60a abs/dcs fuse....the big 60Amp fuse is the abs and dcs pump so with no power it cant pump break fluid...
as ive said i think before holding the dcs button for more than 10secs actually puts the unit into fault as its a switched neutral...and holding it in disconnects the unit from neutral and as the module is only expecting an input to go off for a sec or 2 its goes into fault and will only reset with a cycle of ignition which then resests the unit...popular opinion suggests the switch does not really really turn the system fully off.

Good thought Grant, I will have a look at the ends of the wires just in case they could have earthed out but as they are shrouded in plastic, probably  not :(.

Really worrying I still have no answer  :-[

Jon, thank you for the info, maybe at the brands track day, providing the car keeps going, I will pull just the ABS fuse and see what I get.

Nothing new to report other than a friend of mine sorted out the qualifying video from Brands last week. Consistent 56's with a best of 56.2

In the search for at least another second before a change of tyres, decided the steering rack and the super heavy boot lid has to go.

Rear wing will need redesigning so its not supported by the boot lid, it will be interesting to see how much these items weigh it at.

finally had chance to watch!..wow got some poke down the straights!...its just the bends to sorts..

positive feedback...i dont like the steering mate...seems like its got no feel and a lot of steering input steering wheel is upside down at 1 point and when turning in understeer feedback wind off wind in scrubbing the front tyres all the time..and when winding off powering out of bends gotta turn steering wheel 120degress plus so no chance of that quick flick to counter oversteer from the back lighting up ....manual quick rack...give you more feeback where the grip is...

roadrunner back beep beep lol...take the horns off save some weight.  :P :great: :13:

re japi

You have to race against Radicals and Lotus 7s? That black Scooby looked fast...

But yes, seems like you have some good power there. Open up throttle and there some good grunt from low revs  :13:
Power is nothing without control. Weight is enemy of performance, handling and braking.
