I think clive did say they could use slicks

When I was in Parc ferme where they line the cars up for the next race, I looked at the cars that would be on the grid in front of me and realised they were all on slicks  :(

Dove my socks off every lap and got nowhere "but" I did enjoy getting the max out of the car that I could ;)

On the oil front the car used an 1/8th of a litre of oil per session - ( 125  Milliliters) so it looks like we are on top of the oil issues as well

How much faster a lap does a slick give? A few seconds?

I would say an easy 3-4 seconds a lap even round Brands.

To give you an idea about tyre differences, although a longer track, at Snetterton a few years ago I was asked to test a new treaded  track day tyre on the road car.

I went out on my Yoko's to set a time and then with the new tyre went 5 seconds a lap slower. !

The downside is increased gs in the corner... more oil slosh/ surge and a lot more strain on suspension components.
The handling difference on the westy from yoko a005 slicks to toyo 888 is nigh and day.

So how do you combat the strain on the suspension? Stiffer spring rates?

Is slicks the reason why when you see a proper race car lifted off the floor that wheels don't sag down? Because the suspension and corispondong components don't move as much?

Would slicks also make you to have more aggressive geometry due fast cornering speeds??

Slicks need abit more camber to work properly but on rear of westy i have 0 and grip is very good...dont know on the sagging prob shorter suspension travel.

I already use stiffer than recommended front springs anyway

The reason is just shorter shock travel compared to a road car meaning less droop

Not necessarily, also personally I don't like a lot of negative camber, 2 degrees max as I always feel the car will try and climb up onto the tyre.

Camber would be decided by testing to check wear and tyre temps,

Years ago, running a 10" wide slick leading a long way into a 100 lap race and looking like it was in the bag, I turned in and went straight off into a barrier.

Turned out that due to too much negative had worn the tyre down to the cords leaving half of the tyre still OK and nothing on the inside of the tyre

Do brake pads have an optimal operating temperature? I used to work for a company who's owner, Lawrence Tomlinson, who also owns ginetta. They built the cars in the same warehouse as our electrical stores....

Anyway I used to ogle at the lemans cars they had in there and they've had stuck on temp stickers on the brake calipers?

Yes the pads I use need warming up on the formation lap to make sure they work properly.

Here you go, 1st race.  https://youtu.be/qvjkeRKntxQ ( bit of a lonely race !)

Re dipped the oil this morning and found it had not used any in the second race at all  8)

Spoke to Pip today to get the map looked at again as it is very fumey and I'm getting 10.1 AFR readings so some fuel can come out to get a bit more power  ;)

BTW worked out the MPG------------------------ Came out at 3.4 miles per gallon  :c002:

The. Mpg is very poor clive, you can do better.... I won't be happy unless I see 1gallon per mile
