Umm, I thought that Carl has been building some kind of replica, several years now...?

I think that where you are going to use it determines what chassis is the best option. If its for track use, best option would be something like old Lola chassis, or old "little" formula. For street, well, I dont know your laws and rule, but I guess that kit car would be best option...
Power is nothing without control. Weight is enemy of performance, handling and braking.

Here is one example for a race use. This used to be Imp, and chassis is based on, umm, I dont know :D

I forgot about Carls...seen the chassis not quite rolling but a couple of years ago now....
Mmm just something to tick over in my brain...my kit car is front engined so proportions all wrong.

I really need to see 1 in the flesh to get an idea of size.

Yes, exactly. For a street car, its really diffucult to find chassis with same proportions. Engine and gearbox placement, driver position, and so on...

Wow, this would be a huge undertaking plus a lot of money.

I had a good friend who was a pattern maker who made a kit for me for a mini I raced ( I'll maybe find pic later)

We did a complete body apart from the roof and even then with mates rates  donated fibreglass and other materials I put around 3K into this and this was in the early 80's, off hand I would say 20K + to make the bucks and final moulds "however"  if you made it look authentic enough, I bet it would sell all around the world . ;)

Cant open that link...?

Making molds is really really big job. Even if its not going to be show quality, it takes hours and hours of work. Exciting lines and curves is easy to to copy, but when you are making something new, its a huge task.

For example,  Lada VFTS has its "signature" wings (dunno English name for them) attached to its fenders. When you want to make complete part of them, so fenders and wings are same item, you have to make hours of work to get them fixed and sit right. Cause mold will copy every defect and ugly things on them.

Here is pic of that Lada. Its "evo 2 version. Back door and back wing is one big peace. Friend realized that he has to change those" redish" parts all the time so there were no reason to get them fixed to that fender. And making parts from that big complete part would have been impossible...

Front fender is full peace. Even if its much smaller, it really is pain in arse to do a decent part

Umm, does this make any sense? :)

Isnt original, chassis number 003, on auction within few days? Estimated price 1,6-2,4 mil $, if I remember correctly... :D

Yes, I'm no expert either but I have been doing some classfibre things. Some molds are just fricink difficult. And the time you spent on them...

Janne, Lada owner, is quite expert on those things. But few days ago he said that he have had enough. Next car, if he builds one, has to have all classfibre part available, he wont make them anymore :D This car, he has basically done everything by him self, molds, modification, so on...
