Jon, I did say only the roof was stock  ;)

Japi, Diamond, well I suppose it shows Toyota had a sense of humour  :))

Phil, originally built with a 1700 crossflow but had a Pinto boat anchor fitted in these pictures as a result of Piper Cams supplying me with free engines to develop there cams and vernier  wheels etc.

This car was written off after your namesake (Phill Collard) now of BTCC fame turned me around in front of the pack while we were both after the lead, turned out to be a BTCC training ground for him!

I dont know who named it, was it our importers or Toyotas. :D Well, name is stupid but car has cult fame nowadays...

Pinto engines are quite good, when you change every part on it ;) But good deal Clive

Been a little quiet but still been "at it" getting ready for the new season  :)

I have refreshed the engine, fitted a six speed box back in, redesigned both the oil system and the inlet system which now uses a ported lower FD manifold which puts all the injectors back firing fuel into the holes that god intended ;).

I now have every thing jigged up for the "custom" on off upper manifold and I am currently waiting for some machining work to be carried out so I can finish screwing everything back together and get it running again over the next couple of weeks.

I will get some pictures up once the inlet is finished as yet again it is something very different as it's a one off designed around fitting the FD engine into an RX-8 keeping the RX-8 throttle body  ;)

To prove I have a sense of humour I even painted the engine Red in honour of the Christine  film car  >:D ( after all the damn thing has had a mind of its own)  :D

Have you just used a standard FD manifold of using an excessive one?

As some of you know, I raced a variety of things over the years on small and big tracks plus Drag strips  and just yesterday I found a link that had been put up of a race I had never seen .

The link shows how hard and fast things were in a very confined area!!

( If you have a look, the heat does not take long, but the final which I obviously didn't figure that well in takes a lot of time to play)

The car I was in was the only white Mini in the race, which was Ford Powered that I can see was under-steering like mad!

Here's a couple of pictures of the car in the race

I enjoyed watching  :)

I've only been to Wimbledon Stadium once, many years ago, to watch some banger racing. What a tiny track to race cars on, and what carnage too!

Only seen it once, I have another look later and see what the purple Escort was up to and who was third.

Seems like very little BHP compared to today but it made 174 BHP and from memory I won 14 races with this particular car.

( Good God, how does all this stuff pop back into your memory years on   !!)

Had a quick look again and not sure what you meant by what was the purple Escort doing , or did you mean the Starlet that hit the fence ? (that guy was a 2 time  World champion !)

No run off areas in oval racing just an unforgiving fence.(see below)

The big guy who went up third was actually the winner and called Andy Harris famous, and still famous for making Fords go fast to this day and was on the TV recently in the For the love of cars show.

A few "names" have been in this formula over the years, Martin Brundle and Derek Warwick of F1 fame, plus my old nemesis Phil Collard BTCC these days, Barry Lee (works Ford driver) plus quite a few GT guys all of whom learnt their art in the National Hot Rod formula.

At the beginning of that clip, that purple Escort was "all over the place"... ;)

Wow, some big names there... :D

Umm, so you have raced in BTCC too? Nice :) I think I know Phil Collard, sounds familiar...

I just love old stories, videos and pics :D
