Just an observation...the coilover units are upside down? Is there a reason for this?. Also you only have 1 locking collar on the spring....needs loads of preload to keep them secure....worth fitting a 2nd....cost me dearly.
Hi Jon. coilover is upside down just cos it wont fit in otherway. You are right about locking collar. I havent have time yet to hunt couple of them more. Allso i do need stronger springs so extra locking is important. Those one are for 25-35kg springs and i need 45-55kg springs. And for unsprung weight... she will have motorcycle brakecalipers and custom made lightweight plates( in 2058) it saves 20-25kg off from 1 axel. Some sayd that 1kg on tyre = 7kg on chassi. Those brakes are commonly used on finnish rallycross, and they do work well.  heat is short and speeds are under 100miles/h so they wont suffer so much on hard brakings. I just have to learn not to lay on brakepedal with my left foot.

Btw. I am japis bro, the one whom dreams about driving that red beast some day.

re japi

Well, Ill be damned, didnt trust that this day will come, it did take about 10 years: Moron desided to introduce him self  :))

Anywhoo, hopefully he will be here to answer your questions and so on :)

Hey Clive, me and bro was just checking out cluthses on MRP page and noticed that lots of Exedy products are missing? Change of inventory or...?

Sidenote: Just purchased new winter tyres for my sockermom car... 580â,¬! Dammit! I hate winter...  :sign0135:

Wow Iv missed a few posts on here!! Car is looking amazing.

Still got a couple of pages to read. Did you sort the oil cooler positioning? If not why can't you put it inside the cabin? Best place for it IMO as it won't get damaged and take out your oil system/engine and it will be on. The car for cooking

Only drag cars can really run without oil cooling because they just don't run long enough to warm up the oil to working temp to then be cooked

re japi

Not sure about oil cooling. I think bro is using single FD cooler, but its not sure about position yet... Inside cabin is not allowed.

Also he desided to use FB´s little radiator in front. He custom made brakets for two little electric fans...

Us, Janne the Lada driver and Seppo the Volvo engine guru have been talking about benefits and disadvantages using front mounted radiator or rear mounted. We came to conclusion that it would be easyest and most efficcient to use in front... Janne and Seppo change there setup to front too..

Besides, bros FB has so much room in front that it is really easy to make air flow to direction he wants...

Contact me direct and we can either sort out an Exedy Stage 2 paddle clutch with a Racing Beat flywheel, or one of our new range of ATS Carbon clutches which come with the flywheel  as an assembly.

BTW You really really need to run two oil coolers as I am sure you now know Rotarys rely on oil cooling soooooo much more than any piston engine.
All the best Clive

re japi

Ok, thanks. :) He has to figure out what he wants. Dunno about flywheel but I think he wants carbon clutch...

Yes, I know. I would get one big cooler or use those FD twins. But bro is stubborn :)

In my opinion if your going to use a carbon clutch you need a twin disc at least or even a triple as they take a while to get warm to stick properly. I burnt out a carbon single plate on the standard twin turbos in about a month of having it expensive lesson learnt.

Also if your racing why don't you look into something like Clive uses in his rx8, a tilton?? Very small and light weight. Better engine acceleration.

Defo need the 2 small oil coolers or one larger one

Grant Monkhouse

Here's another thought for you...

Although the pod your brother has made looks indestructible, he could have just not bothered with it. He has a roll cage in the car?? He could have just mounted the gear box too this and also the differential to the roll cage, Iv seen a picture a few years back of dragon performances track car that had done this. The rear subframe attached straight too the roll cage, instead of the body which is a lot more flexible than the roll cage. That was on an FD. He also got rid of the pod and attached the gear box too the cage

re japi

Well Grant, as I said, I really dont know what he want for his clutch. All I know that he wants carbon one and maybe lighter flywheel. He needs to contact Carl and talk about that... But the question now is what kind of system. Cause he want to use 8´s box too and it has different kind clutch system...

Pod?

As for rollcage thing, its better that bro answers to you :)
In early stage of building that car, it was obvious that he is going to use ppf. What kind of system was still open. I think we talked something about bolting everything to rollcage at one point...
But basically rear subframe and coilover towers are custom made and are attached to roll cage...

Hi All. I will monitor intense oil temp at practice heats, and if it rises too high, i'll assemble one of the fds cooler. Its not that hard to put it right away but I am an idiot and I want to keep weight low, even with a risk.

Subframe is welded to chassy and to roll cage, no usefull pics of it. sorry.

Mazda uses the ppf for some reason, and I have seen a chart that shows it's improving an acceleration by twisting the powerline upwards, much like 4link's  lower links on solid rear axel does to the body.
Don´t know if its a fact but I want to test it as I am only one with FlyLowMotorsports Sirocco who use IRS(RWD). They have 12 cm prop shaft. Gearbox is quite far back, as you can imagine. Talking about weight balance....

Carl told me couple years ago, that carbon clutch do slip a bit on could, but I didn't realize it would burn that easily. I just thought that it's good quality at starts if it slips a second. Back in the 80's some build a small shock absorber on clutch pedall to slip it a bit.
Carbon clutch is not compulsory, but its what Carl recommend, and our engine deal includes a flywheel and clutch.
I think he has forget a hole thing and I haven't call him lately(1,5 years). Both do suffer for lack of time.

It has been great to see that our MANKELI threat here has gain so much attention, feedback, opinions and advice for us. We do appreciate it.

Here we go, have a look at this link below, this is perfect for what is needed for Rallycross abuse and is for the RX-8 box.

Not to be confused with any carbon clutches on the market before, indeed Exedy has dropped its Carbon range.
