Ok, our RallyCross seasons last event was in last weekend. I wasnt there, I was sick. I really cant tell you how much that pissed me off cause I couldnt go. Really was waiting that event... :/

Anyhoo, Janne´s Lada was doing great. But wasnt fast enough to get to finals. This season wasnt so great for Janne. Some speed is missing, dunno if its car or man. We have to look thru all data we have.

Also Rotary Volvo was going fast but some misfortune at last heat, and he didnt get to finals either. Some bad luck in every race, so his position in leaderboard isnt good either. But car is running good now :)

Rotary Starlet was fast. But his fight ended to B Final. He was 8th overall at that race. And 6th in season leaderboard.

Last years champion, Vesa with his Fiat X1/9 managed to get that crown back again. He was super fast thru season. But he didnt get it cheap. One young dude, I think he is 17 now, was 2nd overall. Not so far behind Vesa in points. And he is SUPER FAST allready. :)

But our friend Tuomas with his MK2 Ford Escort was really getting better thru season. Unfurtunatly, he has have some bad luck in every event. At last event he was REALLY REALLY fast. He clocked second fastest lap time 0.39.1min and was hitting mid and high 0.39min in every lap. Funny thing about those times are that they are really compatible at higher class, SRC. :D Unfortunatly, at B final, his wishbone broke, and he didnt manage to A final... :/

I know you British love your Escorts, so here is in-car video how stupid Escorts should be driven ;)

Oh, and SuperCar champion is Niclas Grönholm. I bet you know who he is...? :)

Overall feelings about this season are positive. Some really good fights and racing. New cars and drivers. New friends and new info and knowlidge. Really looking forward next season :)

Just watched tv show that featured Idris Elba visiting Finland with Ari Vatanen. :)

Quite a good show. Showed our country at is best, forest and lakes at summer.

One thing I noticed, I think Idris understood Finnish mentality and how we are like. :)

And yes, when in sauna, you are naked! No towels, and 100 celsius temperature :D

Yesterday we tested Janne´s Lada, alot :) Thru all season, problems were getting of the line, launches... It was too stiff, so coilovers were rebuilt after last event. Finally we did get some desent setup to back coilovers and links. Now it does 0-60kmh 2,1seks and 0-100kmh 5,1seks on semislicks. Last years was 0-60 1,8 and 0-100 4,8 with slicks...

Now its time to figure out front setup. Front coilovers needs to be rebuilded too. They are very stiff...

Car was very good, clocking good times. But finally, after all season beating, something finally broke. One spark plug :D

Latest progres.

Office is almost ready.

Front suspension, version 3 I think, almost ready. Also this photo shows that front is quite "empty".

Just an observation...the coilover units are upside down? Is there a reason for this?. Also you only have 1 locking collar on the spring....needs loads of preload to keep them secure....worth fitting a 2nd....cost me dearly.

re japi

Reason for coilover is upside down is quite simple actually: less weight to that coilover to handle...
Im not sure if I can explain it but, when coilover is in normal position it has to handle its own weight too. When it is upside down, it has to handle only weight of that narrow shaft. When there is minimum amount of weight for that coilover to handle, it reacts and moves faster. Thats why many use motorbike brakes, they weight nothing. And thats why wishbones and all that crap is custom made from little pipe metal. :)

Lets say normal FB or FD suspension setup with brakes, wheels and so on weight 25-30kilos(no idea what they weight), with custom setup you can drop it some where 10-15kg maybe. So, if suspension can react and move faster, all that useless weight is turned to our advantage... :)
In bro´s car brake components are still FD parts, at this point. He will change them if this setup works...

It has only one locking collar cause it doesent need another. It has quite big preload. Its snow mobiles, so its suppose to work that way, I quess :) But dunno if he is going to get little preload spring to it...

Oh, and little side note: Both Finns have idiot pitcrews in F1...

Ok that explains it. Reducing unsprung weight...i no nothing about rally cross. Suspension did remind me off a tamiya grass hopper i had as a kid. Built for punishment.

Yes exactly. I tryed to say unsprung weight but didnt know how :D

Actuall, same principles are in track racing. For example "little formulas". Do you know monocoilover suspension system what they use in front ? Same idea basically. :) There is many different variatios but purpose is the same

Mono coilover.....is that inboard shocks?

Yes, suspension things makes brain hurt. :/

We have been very lucky that Janne (lada owner) and few others have helped us. For example angle and position of four links where they mounts to rear axle, makes a LOT differense... Little a bit in wrong position, car wont jump of the line... (And angle of propshaft too ;) but its another story)

Yes it is. Mono coilover is really weird looking thing. I cant even want to try explain it, my english isnt good enough :) But its really old system, I think its from 70s... If you google something like F2000 or Formula Renault, they should have similar system...
