Not a club event but think this is one time perhaps people should attend this years FOS.

Lisa, this was just posted up on the RX8OC, and it seems there is some interest from RX8OC members in organising something for club members for the FoS. Early days, but thought worth mentioning here too. This was what was posted by a member;

"As per my avatar, I am a huge fan of the 787B and am pretty much set on going - just waiting on holiday confirmation with work before looking at booking tickets.

But then I think it would make a great Owners Club meet/trip/event to attend?

Since Mazda is really all about the rotary, and we are the UK owners club for the most recent rotary then would it make sense to approach them about some sort of benefits package for the event?

I'm sure they probably wouldn't want any sort of owners club stand or similar since Goodwood FOS is more and more about the marketing opportunity these days, but still... the most legendary and celebrated iteration of it's engine type should have some enthusiast love at such an event!

Anyone from the committee fancy opening discussions with Mazda UK?
I would be happy to assist but think that any correspondence to Mazda UK should formally come from a commitee member?

Is the MRC doing anything for this, does anyone know?"

I've said we have a thread (this one) but nothing more planned.

Thanks Malcolm

I have seen their thread.

I did not think car club stands where allowed at FOS? With the amount of people that attend especially over the weekend, I would have thougth that there was not sufficient space to cater for club stands.

Please correct if I am wrong and if you have any details, please let me know.

The event is much more of an "up market" marketing event for the manufacturers, a bit of static heritage stuff, plus the "action" stuff on the hill, as far as I can tell. So yes, club stands are highly unlikely to "fit". However, I do wonder if Mazda are planning a big presence and may have some "corporate" facilities we can use, if only for a short period, to gather together Mazda Rotary enthusiasts to meet up. I even wonder (however unlikely) that Mazda UK can be persuaded to present something on the current plans of future rotary engined cars - however vague it might be!

So, vague thoughts at the moment, but I will work with conann on the RX8OC and see if we can come up with something- if there is enough interest in people going along, probably on the Sat or Sun.

As I say, all very vague so far, but would MRC members be interested if we can arrange something (whatever it might be) to gather at the FoS? It probably won't be with our cars on any form of display as I very much doubt it "fits" with the FoS event, probably just a meet together at some point.

Thanks Malcolm,

I think that will be a lot of interest,  the only thing would be selecting which day, Thursday & Friday are obviously cheaper but the weekend would offer  more atmosphere.

I'm hoping to make this again this year. I've seen the 787b a few times but never heard it running. It's either had a broken engine or no engine at all. Fingers crossed for this year.
Getting in touch with mazda is a great idea. I don't think you get a club stand sadly but you could all try and meet up before going in and try to all park up together at least :)

Nice video about the FB that some of us saw going the hill at Goodwood this year. The car was really quick and I'm told it won it's class at Goodwood.

A most excellent find, :bravo_2:

I would  have loved to have heard the car on this great video with the open Racing Beat megaphone system that it had on for the FOS and the Goodwood Revival
All the best Clive
