Ah can't see sig on tappatalk?

Grant Monkhouse

6 second is a lot to shave off, especially when damp.

Stick engine?

Mine going to be bridge ported too

If/when my 70k stock engine needs a rebuild I'll be going street/bridge. I'll be interested in those who have gone the Bridge route; Street is a no-brainer, but I'm interested to see how much better (and reliable) the Bridge option turns out. There is no doubt on track I can tell if I'm behind a ported RX-8 as they certainly have the edge on the straights.

Reliability won't be an issue on a bridge port.

Carl's warrenty proves that.

One thing that makes me smile about getting my rx8 is that it can rev to 9500.

From what Clive said about Carl's bridge is that the power doesn't drop off, at 6500 rpm it sort of has a turbo like kick and you have that bit more power, I will share my experience when iv got the car and it's run in.

The dyno print out will show all these things too:)

That's good to know.

The 9,500 rev limit is awesome and addictive. You may notice on the video up above there is one very long, sweeping corner (Coram) where I'm holding the car on the beep, just below the "soft cut" rev limit for what seems like ages. I do the same thing approaching "Montreal", the 2nd gear hairpin. The beep is VERY useful when on track as an indicator of engine revs!

On Friday I used a litre of oil in ~120 track miles (additionally I premix ~1:200 Castrol Power Racing 2T), which shows the OMP is working hard with all the constant high revving  :)

Ref the 9,500rpm rev limit, I know several of the RX-8 guys are experimenting with "MazdaEdit" software and are "upping" the redline  :) At Snetterton on Friday I know Aston's "Superlight" Essex Rotary car had been remapped with a 10,000 rev limit....

I will be very, very interested in how your bridge performs - maybe you can make it to one of trackdays we organise, once it's run in and you are happy with it?

Is that quick around there? Never been to that track as is miles away

Not too shabby, lap records link below. I'm happy, given it was in December and with my car weight/bhp - I've not stripped ANY weight out of the car at all.

Yeh I'm hoping to do a track day or too, hence the reason for me already inquiring to Clive what he recommends with regards to ARBs and lowering springs.

10,000 rpm sounds great so long as it's only for brief periods, for say stopping you having to change up a gear between shirt corners.

Increasing rpms puts greater strain on bearings and stuff, even more greatly than shoving boost in the engine belive it or not

a dyno shoot out day would be great same mode on the dyno so no BS. id be up for it as plan to do my bridge versus standard later on in the year.

re japi

Yes, power is not everything in track. ;) If you have no traction, you cant use it. If your chassis is useless, you cant turn. If your brakes are bad, you cant dive into corner :)

I have heard about those rx-8 dyno figures too. Offcourse it depends on dyno and dyno user. But in Renesis case, I believe that they simply didnt have time and resources to tune every car to optimum. And as you know, that ecu is really smart. So even if basic engine is the same, they put out different dyno figures as stock. But I have heard that just tuning with that MazdaEdit program, you can get big differenses in stock engine.

For my project engine, I dont want max peak power. I want good power and torque at 5000-8000rpm. Just because usually that is the rev range that is used in tracks(I suppose)... and if you bang that rev limiter all the time, engine wont like it ;)
Power is nothing without control. Weight is enemy of performance, handling and braking.
