Quote from: PurcyP;881017Well if £6000 isnt enough to import ill look for sellers over here then

some rust etc isnt a big problem ..it is a 20 year old car, depends what part of japan it comes from i guess ..but the first thing id do when i get a RX7 regardless if i imported it or not, as long as the body panels arent holding on via rot, ill take it to a rust buster firm and have it completely treated and under coated

If reds your colour.. Martin at Speedline has a nice 97 with fresh engine 5500. It\'s advertised on here
if i had 8 hour to cut down a tree. i`d spend 6 sharpening the axe

PurcyP

be kind of fruitless seeing whats available as of right now..as I do not have £5000+ but the main point of the topic was to see what ball park figure to set out..seems like really £5000 plus
:( wish i did have the money right now though lol

really depends on what type of car you looking for

Red is always bottom of the pile on colour spec (its not a colour the japanese want)

work it back, from K\'sm/condition import charges etc

£6k is not going to buy alot.

if that is your type of budget, then i would suggest looking in the UK for cars which are already over here and sellers wanting to sell (and quick)

This is the type of quality your looking at for not much more

I\'ve always found silver is by far the least sought after colour, red has always sold well especially to the Germans :D

Speedline Imports

I agree Dave, Black and White for UK and red for the Germans!  Silver does seem to be least popular over here.

I\'m told it\'s all down to \'Vin Diesel\' in the original Fast & Furious movie :Giggle
I remember my first RX7, that was red and my mates used to call me \'Dai Petrol\' :Laugh:Laugh:Laugh

the rx7\'s in F&F are so naff lol vin diseals was ugly, the veilside advertisement in tokyo drift is not to my taste either.

hardly a purist but not a fan of those two examples especially.

I\'ve been looking to import an FD myself, hence why I registered for the forum. I\'ve been doing a lot of research to understand the costs. Japanese used cars are cheap, but you need to pay import duty and VAT as well as agent and shipping fees, de-registration in Japan and re-registration with the DVLA in the UK, fitting of an alarm system, converting the speedo and foglight fitment.

All in all the ballpark figure I\'m budgeting against is £12000 for a stock 1999 RX7 Type RS with low miles. I\'m sure you can get a slightly older one for less, but the fees stay about the same.

I\'d be very concerned about importing an FD for less than £5k, if it can be done at all!

Again, I say this as a non-owner (yet).

I\'ve found this website quite good for getting an idea of what japanese action results tend to be.
http://www.exportcar.jp/en/component/auctions/?auction=&lot=&maker_id=3&model_id=446&year_from=&year_to=&engine_from=&engine_to=&transmission=MT&shift=&mileage_from=&mileage_to=&start_price_from=&start_price_to=&colors=all&gradings=%2A%2A%2A%2C1%2C2%2C3%2C3.5%2C4%2C4.5%2C5%2CR%2CRA%2CS&mode=search&sort_field=&sort_order=&limit=20&view=auctlots

Based on what I found I gave myself a budget of 1.3 Million Yen, about £7500 with the current exchange rate. I believe the cost of getting that car to the UK breaks down like this:

Car base cost: £7500
Auction transport: £50
Shipping by container: £750
Duty (10% on everything so far): £830
VAT (20% on top of that): £1660
Customs Agent Fee: £75
Speedo conversion: £150
UK Foglight fitment: £60
DVLA Registration: £55
License Plates: £25
MOT: £35

Total cost: £11190

That does not include alarm fitment or undersealing the car.

Going through a known importer such as JM-Imports is slightly more expensive but does give some peace of mind and is what I\'ll be doing.
