Nice to see you and the car at the weekend Clive, and very happy to hear it was something simple - like we said... it always is!

Unfortunate about the petrol incident on the A12! But at least you and the car were in good hands, Jay and Kerim certainly like a challenge - I\'ve found them to be the best rotary specialists around.
Cheers

Great news mate. Can\'t wait to see you ripping around a track near me soon :)

I don\'t need to upgrade my stock turbo to beat your ass!

Get your finger out, get it on the road and start driving it then!!! (B.Martin 25/2/12)

As some of you will have seen the RX-8 had its first run at Japfest that could finally be deemed as proper test run.

I had only 6 psi boost and a rev limit fitted but in the damp / greasy then drizzle  conditions I have come back with a huge amount of info.

Malcolm worked out the times from a camera he installed in the car and worked out that the car circulated consistently at around 8 seconds quicker at 1.23  than his RX-8 that he drives with much very very well and very quickly.

I had two snap spins out of quarry but I know why:eek::Hammer.

The spins were not an issue as I just kept my foot in to make sure I spun properly rather than out of control and heading for the barriers

At Cadwell 3 years ago I had "snap oversteer" and knew it was the car and not me and on the way home worked out this was the same situation, also it caught Jaydee out the other day whilst mapping just the same way.

Next up was that the gearing was completely wrong for the car and apart from the straight I always felt the car was in the wrong but this is an easy fix as I have a fully rebuilt R3 diff ready and waiting to go in the car. :chat

Next was that because of no seat time the suspension was just set to hard and done with which was way too hard for a slippery circuit and impossible in the second session which was why I came in.

Jon (Boosted ) mailed just now to confirm my thoughts of a diff problem as he was standing at quarry bend. (picture below courtesy of Jon)

Huge huge thanks must go to the many many people who have helped in various ways to get this very special car to finally see the track (you all know who you are ):Thumbsup!

In three weeks’ time, the car will see its first race at Donnington Park with the car fully mapped and the  boost turned up so we have real horsepower, plus a diff and final drive change to 4.7 then we will find out how competitive this car is going to be up against a 30 + car grid to try and uphold Rotary honor against all those Piston powered racers :3gears-lh
All the best Clive

Great report, and great progress :)

I´m very happy to see that car coming together. I really hope that I can see her at action someday, soon ;)

Great progress Clive, well done to everyone who has worked so hard to make this project happen :Thumbs-up

I\'m very much hoping I can get out up to Donington to give support and take some pictures! I hope there will be others who can come along too to lend support too.

Was weird thet you were pretty much the quietest car on track though haha

Clive, I managed to log a few lap times on Saturday, this was in the 11.36 session.  I was positioned before Camp Corner.

That\'s excellent Kevin, stacks up with the in-car video times I have given Clive. The 1.43 was after the spin into the in-field at Quarry then Clive did 1m25, 1m27, 1m26. Very close to the sequence you\'ve posted. The fastest lap was the one before the spin, 1m23, and that was with a slight holdup in traffic. The video shows he lost ~2-3s in traffic latter laps, so 1m23 seems about the pace on the day. As Clive said, that\'s on road tyres, slightly damp, low boost, rev limit at ~8k, and first time out for car. So, showing great potential :)

That\'s a great video car looks flat coming through the corner...if the weather had been more favourable those times would tumble. sounds more like a spaceship than a car..me like! Warp 9 for donnie!

Does Clive have in-car video from that event?

Clive has an in car (HD) video of the first session, but with no sound :Hammer. The camera was taped up last minute to the roll cage, mainly so Clive could post review track times and the mute button on the camera got activated in securing the camera with gaffer tape :Hammer:Hammer. Clive borrowed my camera and I have just posted all the footage of the first session (in 2 spins!) to him on DVD for review. If he\'s happy, I\'ll post it up on youtube.....the view out of the windscreen isn\'t the best, but not bad for a last minute lash up!

Clive has asked me to post up his in car video :). This is the first session of the day, the only session on film. Sorry the mute button got pressed in lashing up the camera with gaffa tape, so no sound :(!

If you\'ve got a fast internet connection, use the gearwheel (bottom left) to change to 1080 HD for best quality.
