Ive just had a nice new alarm immobiliser fitted ( Thatcham 1) for my insurance company. All is well on the fitting front except the central locking.

I was originally quoted an extra 55quid plus VAT to get the doors to unlock via the alarm button. I thought this was a good plan since the locks and keys on the FD are not great. I got a phonecall saying that they could not get the right solenoid to do the job for me and that they would have to order it special. So i told then not to bother until they could get mea price.

I have got the car back complete with alarm and now the buggers are saying that it will cost me 170 quid to do the central locking.

Any idea\'s who can do this cheaper?

P.S. the silly sods left a standard Solenoid on the backseat of the car. Which i now have at home.

You should be able to get something like a ford fiesta solenoid that would do the job.

I thought if they gave the quote for the extra 55 quid, they are kinda tied to it?
Everyone wants to be like ArchBish,

Amazed

They are charging you for the central locking ?

It does it anyway, apart from the drivers door, you just need to have a motor installed in the drivers door to make it work

I wasn\'t even charged for that

Based on this im glad the sods left the Solenoid in the back of my car. They claim that they have to shape the solenoid to fit the car and it will take about 3 - 4 hours labour.

Not too happy now. Nuthin i can do though. Is fitting a solenoid pretty easy? Or do i need to get someone with a brain to do it?

P.S. I love the FD but i am no good as a mechanic at all. Good with Stereo\'s though??

basically you\'ll have two wires coming from your alarm.  these connect to the solenoid.  The solenoid then activates the drivers side lock when activated via the alarm.....  like manually locking the car from the inside...if you get what i mean.  It just takes the time position it right....thats the hard part. I\'m in mansfield mate so if you want to pop over one weekend and have a look at my install you can get an idea...

Cheers

Yep like Adam I did mine myself. Once you know where it can and will fit then you should have no problem. So i\'d suggest popping down to Adams or mine for that matter as I\'m just in Notts too. So then you know where it\'ll fit while still being able to re-fit the door card;).

Regards,

Paul

P.S. I used a std sized solenoid.

Big Stu

I moght just do this as i have the Solenoid already. I feel a lot better about that.

Maybe i can have a chat with someone at the AGM this sunday.

Do you think they\'re able to connect a alarm to the central locking here in Holland? There aren\'t many FDs around...
