Sorry I haven\'t been on the forum much recently due to a family bereavement. However, the funeral has now taken place and I\'m trying to get back to some normality so I very much look forward to seeing everyone either tomorrow (Tangmere and/or the evening meal) or on Saturday.

I haven\'t been able to do much in the way of briefing or prep for this one, but I\'m sure we\'ll have a fabulous day, especially as the weather is looking good. You should have received an email to confirm your booking, but if you didn\'t, or can\'t find it, here are the key points;

Signing On 7.30
Briefing 8.30
Start Driving 9.00
Lunch 12.30
Start Driving 13.30
End Driving 17.00

Please ensure you read and adhere to the 7 point checklist below before commencing your journey to the circuit
1) Bring your driving license - both the plastic and paper parts (please note that an MSA race license is not an acceptable substitute)
2) Make sure your car complies with any noise restrictions at the venue (98dB static, 96dB drive by)
3) Ensure your car is fit for the purpose intended; this includes brake, tyre, suspension and steering checks
4) Fit your towing-eye prior to joining the circuit
5) Bring suitable clothing as covered arms & legs are required at all times on the track
6) Slicks are not permitted on cars without adequate rollover protection
7) No hand-held cameras are permitted - any cameras need to be securely mounted in the car

Additional Requirements
The primary requirements are that all drivers and passengers read and complete a Track Day Declaration and Indemnity form, available at the circuit, and that anyone going out onto the circuit wears a helmet. Helmets are available to hire at £10 per day.
There will be a compulsory safety briefing at 8:30AM. There will be another briefing 1 hour later.

Additional Drivers and Passengers
All drivers and passengers have to read and complete the Track Day Declaration and Indemnity before going out onto the circuit. Spectators are welcome. Children under 16 years must be supervised at all times.
The first additional driver/passenger are included. Additional drivers can be added at £25 and passengers are £10. Both can be paid for on the day.

Directions
Goodwood circuit entrance is off Claypit Lane, PO18 0PH. Enter the circuit via the tunnel and upon exit follow the road around to the left. The paddock area is on the left had side and consists of 3 sets of covered parking areas.

Many thanks to Harrizone for progressing the evening meal arrangements whilst I was otherwise engaged.

See you all soon!

Once again thank you for a great day out,  it was an amazing place with the airfield running it was strange seeing planes taking off and landing just over head , not that I was watching while on track, and some very special cars turning up in readiness for the festival, as far as the track goes it\'s very fast and the faster I got the little  dips half way round bends could make it interesting, sorry I didn\'t get any footage but I know others did.

I\'ve just got back home after an overnight stay with family on the way back from Goodwood. My summary of the day...

-an awesome track to drive (beeping in 4th in two places  :D )
-great social event, and thanks to everyone who came along to make it so  =D>
-great weather
-expensive food (bought my lunch at Sainsbury\'s when refuelling during the lunch break to avoid onsite catering)
-noise testing was a joke; just about everyone had readings 10dB higher than ever before. It was claimed my Racing Beat (with cat) was 97dB at 6,700 revs (so I only just scraped through the 98dB limit??). It\'s never tested higher than 88 before! I was mightily relieved that CJR managed to get out on track after failing the static noise test. He had to be very careful   passing the THREE trackside noise meters. God knows what those meters did when the Spitfire came over fast and low, full throttle into a steep climb, then a roll - awesome sight  :D We spotted one silver RX-8 parked up during the morning and was not part of our group, with no driver in sight. Later in the day I spotted two people go over to the car and went over for a chat. It turns out that the car has a Milktek exhaust with decat and the driver (Nick) had been black flagged on his very first lap for noise and was banned from driving for the rest of the day! This was his 2nd ever trackday, the first being at Brands Hatch where he had no noise issues. I\'m very sad he had this experience and I hope he won\'t be put off doing more trackdays.
-very expensive day for the actual time on track. The session changeovers must have wasted 10 minutes per hour and the queuing arrangements were diabolical

Great to meet another track "first timer"; fasbassa (Jim) with his two sons, Tom and Dave (I hope I got that right!). It was a pleasure to give you a demonstration of what the RX-8 can do on track (but you need to go out with conann for the full experience :god I hope to see you at another trackday soon.

Ben - great to see you and your family again, nice of you to come along and join us.

Unfortunately, an Open Pit Lane day just isn\'t going to happen at Goodwood or, if it did, it would be in the region of £400-500.

For me, a great day overall. I\'m pleased to know I have driven on this very historic circuit, but I doubt I\'ll go back unless the session arrangements and price were significantly improved (and I can\'t see that happening).

I\'ll see if I can post up some video and pictures later....

Pete (conann) kindly showed me his lines on one session, so here is some video of me trying to keep up with him, resulting in my quickest lap of the day, 1m38s S/F line to S/F line, 0m55s to 2m33s on the youtube clock. Well pleased with that result  :D

Watch me and Pete let the white "radical like" kitcar past and then catch up with him again...awesome

What with the stupid queuing arrangements, I didn\'t get as much chance as I\'d have liked to take photos. But I did manage to get a few!

Great photos Malcolm, especially as a good few of them feature my car. :D I shall be in touch. ;)

I\'ve posted my thoughts on the day over on that other forum I frequent, but most just reiterates what Malcolm has said. Missed all of the aircraft except the Lancaster that passed directly overhead, at about 200 feet, just as I left the circuit for fuel, so got a great view of the underside. :cool

Thanks to Clive for taking my car on track and identifying a problem with the clutch pedal that I was unaware of, as I had just been compensating for the loss of feel as it was probably so gradual. Five minutes later it was fixed, but no way could I have used the contortions that Clive did in order to adjust the free play out of the pedal. Feels much better now. :Thumbs-up

Despite some of the exotic machinery on the site during the day it was a certain yellow RX4 that got all of the attention and deservedly so. :Thumbs-up :god

First up, Many thanks to Malcolm for organising and Nick (Mazda On Track)  for hosting the day on my one and only ever trip to the Goodwood  Circuit that I will ever have.

After trying to get the RX-8 race car there, a car it turned out would never have seen the track because of noise, I had a whale of a time seeing people smile because I put the RX-4 through its paces around the tack, OK, not paces more like wanderings around the track , like I said "I spent all day looking for a lame tame MX-5 to play with but couldn\'t even manage that"  :Giggle

With a top speed of 84mph on the main straights and no need to even brake at the end of the grandstand straight, just a lift to turn in and then fully plant the "quiet" pedal all the way through the bend then all the way out around the back of the circuit down to St Marys before lifting and not needing to brake till Lavant, I still enjoyed the day immensely made all the better with the company of you guys. Must have been a good day as I even got Lisa in the car, albeit only on the sighting laps  :Thumbsup!

Many thanks to Ray for a trial run in his RX-8 which at least got me some idea of the circuit at speed, mind you Chris with his RX-7 must have had even more of an idea of speed, pulling 140mph down the back straight, without even seeing max throttle but more of that in a minute !

Whilst the day was very enjoyable for the above reasons I would never go back not only because of the fear of not passing their very special noise testing facility but also the attitude of all but one of the Goodwood staff.

To expand on this "independent" testing showed a constant 10db over what we would expect to see from an RX-8, they even rated the RX-8 with a stock exhaust, a broom handle tail pipe and a note I have never even heard inside the cabin at an astounding 95db, hell I thought I was on candid camera  :rollin

What was much worse was Chris being told his car was way over and then being laughed at whilst being told he was on his way home and not going on track, a feat recreated not doubt when dragging cars off the track later in the day including a standard Boxter with a stock exhaust!

I actually exclaimed that you guys go all around the UK and see consecutive readings and not the 10db extra we are now seeing, this was met with the answer that there\'s are recalibrated constantly !

"Fortunately" we found one guy from Goodwood called Alan who shared none of the arrogance I witnessed from other Goodwood staff through the day and he was kind enough to not only to get Chris out under "probation" but also to coach where and where not to go on the gas near the three noise meters around the track, had it not been for this one helpful Goodwood guy Chris would have been on the trailer and back off to Yorkshire.

I sneeked in the pit office and watched the live feed graph that the woman in charge jumped for joy each time a car was detected for being to loud, all of this I could maybe have lived with as the council kept being sited as "the enemy"  if I was not told later in the day that if we attended a more expensive day we would have a higher noise limit.

To sum up this left me feeling that at this most expensive ever track day I have attended, we were cheap skates for not paying the extra to be able to make more noise.

To sum up, loved the fact that although never to return, I have experienced the place, loved the day in spite of all the above and the grin factor that surrounded the RX-4 on track, proving once and for all "it\'s not an ornament"  ;)
All the best Clive

Great pictures Malcolm, thanks for posting up so quickly.

Tina and I had a brilliant day and the company and banter over the evening meals was very enjoyable.
Thanks to everyone who participated and made this a great day out.

Great to meet up with so many members of the two clubs (MRC & RX8 OC)
Big thanks to Lisa (just for being Lisa) and Clive for helping get the FD (and me) on track. After the two failures on the static noise test, I was fearing the long drive home without the FD getting near the track.
But finding the right people and remaining cooperative and calm helped getting us out on track..and that was definately well worth the effort.

The track itself suited the FD with longish straights and long open fast bends. Even though I had to almost free wheel past the various noise meters. :rollin

I have some great video of Clive\'s RX4 on track, 3 laps I think, until a hooligan called Jim came up and brought some speed in the mix. So I have a lap of Jim on the video also.
Just need a person with more IT skill than me to edit and load to the forum (I\'ll get my daughter to do it later this week). :Typing

So the 8 hour drive down was improved somewhat by a 6 hour drive back, even though we were caught up in the Silverstone traffic on Sunday !!!

So FD off the road for a while needing some immediate mechanical attention, to be followed by some significant remodeling this winter.

Thanks again for a great day.
Chris & Tina.

Sorry to gate crash this (however I did previously own an MX5 R3 and an RX-8) :)

Really wanted to +1 to the Goodwood day organisation fiasco, have driven many track days in the past but this was by far and away the worst for attitude, jobs-worth and nannying I have ever experienced and should not put first timers off of the track day scene.

The noise limits were woefully poor (and confirmed higher than normal), although my mazdaontrack blurb said "open pit" with a "maybe sessioned" it has become clear from other forums including this one that it was always going to be sessioned and for the high cost of the event that should have been declared before purchase (i see it was stated here many months ago however).

Obviously the track was great and i have some good videos, but as others have said, it\'s probably a one-shot deal... The only real way to describe it was as if the organisers were doing you a big favour by letting you on the track, ignoring the sky high price for sessioned admission!

Anyhow, had a good natter to a few folk, so good crowd, hope I didn\'t pester too many drivers, i was in the Orange Atom driving like each session was my last of the day, such was the queue! :)
