Yeah looks mad.
The rear guards are just.......gone

Good luck with the grinder

I just skimmed the mag,
I saw amemiya symbol but i thought maybe a competitor.
when it comes to kanji.
My jap is crap.
:rollin
But I can actually read that. "RE-Amemiya New Machine"
Its a good mag this one.

I managed to pick up all the old hyper revs and RE Magazines for 200 yen each at Book OFF. a lucky find.

Found these pics of a car from

//www.makeup-power.co.jp

at the sapporo auto salon.

Also
On the latest option video there is a article on the D1 FD which shows the inside and building the car.

interesting stuff like this.
they reinforced the front for crashes and placed the intercooler and stuff way back towards the engine.

I dont have any capture software sorry.

Not much been happening the last few months - had a bit of a personal blow, but getting back on track slowly.  Completion still may be another year away, good things come to those who wait!! :)

A little more work is being done now...

Dummy block is together, gearbox is together - with engine (remote shifter mechanism for the Holinger ordered).

All suspension components are being anodised then will be assembled again.  Virtually every single suspension component will be a spherical bearing type set-up.

Left-hand drive dash, instrument cluster, and steering rack has been ordered from the US.

Shocks and springs have been ordered.

Measurements have been made, wheels have been ordered we are going for 18 x 10 inch on the front, and 18 x 12 inch on the rear.  Decided to go with the 5 stud set-up, but rims will have a spigot set-up to help alignment of the wheels and also increases strength/safety for the rim (as they will be lightened considerably).

Plan is to have all 4 wheels, brakes, suspension done in the next few months - then we move onto the roll-cage.

Couple pics. attached:

Dummy engine and gearbox are temporarily sitting in the car.  The engine will actually move a further 10-12 cm\'s back from where it is temp. sitting in the photo (firewall/tunnel will modified to suit).  We were going to go further back, but there is a lot more work involved and as it isn\'t a tube frame chassis, maintenance/practicality becomes quite an issue etc..

What are you doing prop-wise out of interest mate?

Presumably its the inlet manifold and plenum that limit how far the motor can go aft - which hacking the shit out of the front of the car :(? what will happen plenum-wise? I\'d guess some thing akin to Dennis\'/EvilAls, but then they are both turbo\'d arent they so  probably not?

Look forward to more pictures, good luck with it all.

Those are some wide wide wheels!  Where you putting a RE wide body kit on or is it more custom (and wider) that a simple bolt-on?  Guess you can run bigger offsets with wheels that wide.

You might have answered this question before, but whey are you going for left-hand drive?

Also, great stuff, keep it coming!

I guess with left hand drive you dont have the steering column restricting what u do with the exhaust - and the exhaust is obviously paramount on Rotors like this baby :)

hehehe - the original one with moving the motor WAY back would have only been 12 inches long :)  but it will be a little longer now, not sure of the exact length and we are not sure if it will be a 2 piece or not.

Yes - no plenum as such, but there will be a mega airbox feeding air to the throttle bodies.  Should have some more pics. in a few weeks, hopefully all the suspension gear will start to go on - going to look trick!

There was just so much extra work to move the engine back further - the entire tunnel would have to be modified, seats may not have even fit! would have had to use Zeus (spelling) Fasteners etc.  and it isn\'t a tube chassis.  We are still looking at 50/50 weight dist. though.  If you look at cars like this one, you can soon see why a tube frame is the way to go (so much more flexible):

Gotta find some slicks for it now!

The RE body kit is pretty much bolt on, but the guys did quite a few mods to make it more part of the car than just a bolt on, see //www.4rotor.com for pics.

Yes - Rich has hit it on the head, intake and exhaust will take up a bit of space.  I want to have a passenger seat to take people for rides (an absolute must!) which was another reason the engine couldn\'t go right back.  It will be running power steering, I have a feeling those slicks/tyres will be pretty hard to turn under load with out ps.  Having in on the left makes things a lot easier.

Took some more photos today - tunnel/firewall are cut and engine is virtually sitting where it should be (may come back a tiny bit).

Gives you a better idea now...

Hi Glenn,
You may not need to go to far back as my car is quite light on the steering with the engine mounted in the stock position.(Power steering pump off for the moment.)
This project must be costing you a small fortune!
Kind regards
Carl

Hi Carl,

Do you have a set of scales?  would be very interested if you could tell me what the weight distribution is?

Essentially we wanted to get the engine behind the front strut towers which is what we have pretty much done (almost mid-mount, but not quite).

Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)  and it still doesn\'t have any wheels or a real engine or cage or wiring or ................................................  :rollin
Thanks,

Carl

I will do that if you like when up and running proper.
Has your engine not been built yet?
kind regards

looks like you are doing a proper job there Glen, I\'d love to have the time to strip a car to a bare shell and build it back up exactly to my liking.

Mazda did a fair bit of lightening on the FD didn\'t they, there are puched holes in the metal work all over the place.

Glenn Butcher

Hi Carl - that would be great.

No, we don\'t need the engine for at least another 10 months at the moment.  So putting the money into what is required when it comes up.

Mike - yeah, holes everywhere!  and we are making more :)
Thanks,
