With the end of 2012 drift season I\'ve reflected on the car\'s performance and reliability and been very happy.

This year I\'ve suffered only from some minor electrical glitches, normal cosmetic damage and failure of the twins. So based on this i\'ve decided to push on and go ahead with the single conversion I\'ve been putting off for so long. My main concern with the work is that I don\'t want to lose any reliability, so I will be ensuring that heat I\'m containing heat and cooling down as much as possible. This means, heatwrap, turbo beanies, and heat sheilding around the lower inlet manifold. The other consideration is that the twins are water cooled, where as the turbo I currently have is only oil cooled, so I will most likely be adding fans to my twin oil coolers to to help out with this. And finaly... a workings set of gauges is definatly needed for oil temp and pressure.

Although the turbo conversion is the main focus of the winter rebuild, I\'m also going to be giving the cars apearance a refresh with a new kit and also address the faded diff mounts which i believe are the cause of the rear end feeling a little loose at times.

I\'ve already been booked in for Japfest @ Donnington for 2013 so the pressure is on to get the car sorted

Here\'s a quick break down of the work which I\'m planning to do

Engine Work

  • Turbo Kitt
  • swirl port fit
  • bosch 044 fitt
  • uprate injectors
  • remap

Apearance:

  • Replacement BodyKitt
  • Repaint Wheels (AGAIN)

Handeling

  • Diff Bushes (possibly solid)
  • Stiffened PPF
  • braided brake lines

Electrical

  • Fix Oil Pressure sensor
  • Fit oil temp gauge
  • Wire in the Bosch 044 into dash switch

I\'d like to thank the help of my sponsors RE-CTS & Core-renewables.co.uk who are helping keep my drifting going.

And also give a mention to Danny & Dale (DM-Motorsports) who are and will be (if they like it or not) going to be helping me with services and moral support when it all goes wrong over winter and I\'m panicing about getting to the first Taxi event in the new year :o

The Strip Down

Bumpers, skirts and wings off to aid with having access.. and make way for the new kit

There\'s no where enough room to do the requried work with the big V-Mount in the way.

Taking the twins out is a right PITA... I\'ve only had to do it 4 times now (including the non sequential work).. and I\'m all ready sick of it!!! BRING ON THE SINGLE

Here\'s most of the bits from string down.

Next was test fitting the single...

Also did a test for rough fit of the downpipe... but this needs cutting and the 3" vband welding on to mate with the v-band rear housing.

Final strip down was the injector rail removal which is a scary buisness with an extremely old wiring loom to move out the way... Horror stories of disturbing wiring come to mind....

Question for people while its fresh in my mind...

The coolant pipe that runs to the throttle body, this is for the wax rod for cold start right? Can i remove & blank this off?

R1Dude

Yes you can but have to tickle the throttle a bit on start up

rx7ali

Ok so while sourceing an alternative single kitt I\'ve managed to crack on stripping the engine to bare block

stripping back the Loom (will be coming out alltogether very soon)

and a bit of bay cleaning (SO GAY!)

Soon to come is the test fit of new single kit, followed by more stripping, cleaning and some polishing of UIM. Also new body kitt arives today WOOT!!!
Then i just need to work out how to put it all back together

Clean the block a bit if you can, good for a good 10-15hp :) painting it gains another 10hp also.

What turbo have you got?

LoL... trust me cleaning is the last thing i want to be doing. Specialy as it\'s likely to be just getting filled with tyre crap and spilt PS fluid again all year. But while its all apart and i dont have the dosh to complete everything in one go it seems like the right thing to do.

Plus more likely to attract sponsors with a tidy car :wave

I\'ll post up full details of the kitt on Saturday after collecting :King

Yay. lots of smileys to chose from!!

:Party:burnout:rollin:cheers:WaveBye

Grant Monkhouse

Smiley crazy!! Woop woop

One of my sponsors Keith from RE-CTS (Rotary Compression testing specialist) came through today in delivering my new outfit for the car.

The boy was testing it out for size:

Some prep work and then a quick coat of Matt Black is in order
But for the moment it goes with the rest of the bits in the "storage unit" lol

Grant Monkhouse

I like your storage area!

I had that kit on my fd! People say its a bit marmite but I really like it!

I\'m well up for a change and a full kit is never to be sniffed at. Never seen one in Matt black either so that will be a new one :cool

Grant Monkhouse

Yeh, we found the rear bumper was a little misshaped where it wraps around the sides. With a few pins and screws it sat nice and flush. Side skirts are a PITA TBH

Ahh... well if all else fails i have some CWest ones which wont look too out of place.

It\'s HOME!!! Garrett t04r kit.. bring on the power!!!!!

Needs a fresh heat wrap and possible a new oil feed.. but nothing that won\'t stop a test fit this weekend. :D
This may put a hold on the bay cleaning ;)

Had to strip the down pipe, wastegate and my break stopper in order to sqeeze it in but the test fit is done:

Did a test fit with my DIY vmout in place to test for space for the filter. My fear was that the idleller pulley would get in the way.. and initially it does:

But a quick rotation and all is good..

I\'m a little concerned about the filter dragging in hot air from around the radiator. At some stage i think i need to be doing either a cold air feed or to run a longer inlet pipe to somewhere sensible.. but for the moment it\'s in and I\'m HAPPY :D

Just get a couple of silicone bends and move it too above the IC or to the side of it
