Just looking at changing my gearbox fluid & was looking for how to do this & any cunning plans on which fluid?
I see Gary does some "max" (Royal purple) variety which i presume is pucker just wondered if there were any preferences amongst you folks?

Did mine about 3 months ago and used redline mt90. It used to grind when going into 2nd sometimes but didnt do it once after i put the redline in, felt alot smoother all round aswell.

I cut a hole in the cap of each bottle and taped a hose about 2m long to it  then dropped the hose down to the box from the engine bay. I stayed under the car making sure the hose stayed in the filler hole while my \'assistant\' tipped the bottle upside down and punctured a hole in the bottom. It worked great and saved me a few quid on a fluid pump :D

Den, that\'s good to hear. My second gear crunches and I\'d thought about switching to redline in an attempt to cure it. Will defo do it now!

Nice one Dean, how many quarts did it use? and is it obvious when it is full? I bought 3 quarts of MT90 a few months ago now and still haven\'t had chance to put it in yet

Cheers,

Paul:)

Appologies, i did get a bit ahead of myself there... This is for an fc btw.

On the gearbox there are 4 plugs, 2 on the side and 2 on the bottom. The 2 on the bottom are drain plugs, one of the side ones is for the filling point and the other side one is for the check hole. Start by removing the two on the side, then with a container at the ready remove the bottom two. Once the old oil is out use some sealant on the bottom two plugs and replace them. If i remember right there\'s a crush washer on the larger drain plug, this should be replaced aswell. Now comes the bit i mentioned before with the length of hose and assistant etc. Place the hose in the hole on the side of the box which is closest to the engine then start filling it up. When the oil starts to drip out of the other hole its full. Replace the two plugs you have left using more sealant and thats it. It took nearly 3 quarts to fill but i did spill a little.
