Hey guys

In the new year im a have the 13b out for a rebuild as ive been putting it off for too long. Ive done 2 before on friends rxs, but with mine ill be pushing for more horses next year.

My questions are...

Im thinking of fitting 3mm apex seals in prep for the HP, but do i have to get the rotors machined to fit these? only ever worked with 2mm seals.

Also when talking high end power would there be any loss in performance if the rotos are one weight class apart. I have a C and B class set of rotors and i know for stock engines the general rule is one weight class either way is ok, but for high power application, would having identically balanced rotors make a difference?

Cheers guys and merry xmas!:Party

You don\'t need 3mm seals. Stick with 2 piece, better compression and not as hard wearing on your housings.

Not sure on the rotor weights but if your having them lightened and balance it will help to have them the same weight before hand.

Dragun

Thanks bud, so if sticking with the 2mm seals do you think i should upgrade to carbon or ceramic or stick with OEM?

So if getting the rotors balanced, then the weight class its given is redundant?

Stick with the standard items. No need for ceramic or carbon unless you want high revving NA motor IMO. Are you rebuilding it yourself?

Grant Monkhouse

If your getting them lightened then try start with rotors that are the same, easier to machine them down to same weight. Are you wanting to rev it higher? Or just have a crisper throttle response?

Dragun

Awesome, thanks...guess its like sparky coils and the oil filters....loads of aftermarket ones out there but OEM is best, thanks for clarifying. Yeah got use of a friends garage for a week while hes away so gonna make use of it then.

well throttle response would be preffered as turbo lag makes it feel a bit boggy which is a given, so anything that improves the feel would be great, but a happy medium where both can be achieved would be perfect

It\'s not that the ceramic aren\'t good, if ceramics go wrong they destroy prety much everything in your engine and take a longer time to bed in.

Thanks man, if funds allow I might even treat myself to those lightweight rotors :). Just noticed grant you\'re a moderator?! When did this happen lol

Ha yeh I got upgraded about a month ago. On here all the time so easier to keep an eye on things suck as spamming and trolling!

You probably won\'t need light weight rotors. What turbo have you got ATM?

Dragun

Awesome :)

Its a T78 33D, very slow spooling but top end its dangerous :)

What size is the rear housing?

Dont use stock mazda apex seals for a big power engine, they have been designed for stock use.
Uprated 2mm tips are fine.
We warranty our rebuilt engines for Detonation, track day\'s and RWYB and NOW for 30 months which is two and half years or 30,000 miles
We also build all types of race or road engines.
We build race and track cars too.
Any kind of porting undertaken.
Single turbo conversions.

Get some of Carl\'s seals;) :D they\'re made of cryptonite and unobtanium.
