Ah heck, i feel your pain, had a near miss a few years ago with black ice, i was also just gently accelerating and only about 25mph at the time.

Fingers crossed for you that its not a write off.

I think it will be. But I do have the option to retain it. The engine is strong so might mx5 it or something lol

Grant Monkhouse

With what you get paid out with just swap the engine etc over into another shell. You should be able to get another that\'s got no engine or a blown engine, then scrap the rest

DC-TYPER

Yeh, I\'m thinking about it. I\'ll see what the score is when they call

this is like a game of poker ...keep all your cards close to your chest....taking the salvage your doing them a favour..... in a salvage yard it not going to raise much so try to get the best value possible for your  and keep your intentions to retain the salvage right up to the last minute.....
been here with the wifes mr2...my old 200sx s14......quite lucrative in the end!

Just re read my post ...missed a few words out sorry was in a rush!!!
My wifes car was recently hit and i had some fun and games with insurance...basically what i was trying to say was dont volunteer the info that you want to keep car ( retain salvage) and secure settlement price first.

This is what hitting a crash barrier at 50mph after spinning on black ice will do. Thankfully the legend that is Stu managed to sort it out and it wasn\'t written off :)

ill post picks in a bit, the engineer called today to say its a write off! he offered £3.5k! heres the conversation

him: ill allow 3.5k
me: no chance
him: well i can see a couple for sale, some with less mileage, the most they go for is 4.5k
me. dont care, where are you looking?
him: autotrader
me: my car wouldnt be found on autotrader, its one of the best examples of a standard car around, its done 40k and 6k on a new engine. have these had new engines?
him: not sure
me: well my policy states you are to get an averadge price for a like for like vehicle for sale in classic car magazines. not autotrader where they have bits of crap bolted to them.
Him: ok ill get back to you

sticking to my mo fo guns

Arrrrrrrrrrggggggggg, horrible seeing this thread but at least you guys are OK

Whilst this sadly will not help either of you it is worth others reading this thread to realise that as a full club member we can and advise people to have agreed values which is essentially a replacement value placed on your car for which we can arrange the paperwork for the insurance
All the best Clive

I know people will say "I control traction with my pedal foot" but surely this has to be a time when traction control may have helped?

Threads like this give me the fear.
