hi, just needing info and advice really.

i know this has been covered a couple of times before in different threads, but the car went for its MOT and failed on the emissions which has never happened before. the result came back as 7.5!

is there any reason this figure would be so high?

ive got a custom made exhaust on the car, even plumbed back in 1 of the other small pipes which feed into the exhaust on the side, should the 2nd one also be plumbed back in??
also i have not removed the air pump.

any more help on this will be greatly appreciated

thanks.

I presume this was an FC, but EGI or T2?

Also, did they do the emissions test when the car was cold (it will always fail if they did) ?

Things that can help:

Warm engine - properly up to temperature
New Spark plugs
Clean Air filter
Good spark getting to the plugs - check leads, coils, dizzy (it if has one)
Check engine has a good stable idle

If all else fails, run until almost empty then dope the tank with Methanol or Ethanol. HC\'s will drop to virtually zero just make sure you fill up asap and don\'t drive it hard until its out of the system.

sorry yes its an egi.
it has pretty new spark plugs and filter.
cheers for the tips, ill make sure they do it when warmed up next time.

bit off topic now but does anybody know the specs of the clutch line on the egi?
length of the hose? any fittings and pieces to secure it into place.
im going to see if i can get a braided one made up.

and is it true that a brake line for the FD or mx5 will fit and work as a clutch line?

grinder

im sure the braided clutch lines are that expensive anyways

Just buy one rather than faffing around :D

this is where i got mine from : http://www.mazdatrix.com/getprice.asp?partnum=4990

What\'s with emission testing. ?  My Fd is exempt. Don\'t get what the issue is on early cars. Weird :Ladys-man

juniorbamf

how is the FD exempt from it?? i wish mine was but its always had emissions tested.

TRIND-FD

Maybe I was lucky :).  The chap where I take it. Phoned up the vosa bloke for our area, said he had a rotary in, made December 91 registered jan 92 and what emission test was required.  He replied its not required. So he added onto my mot certificate in the notes section iirc. Will get a pic up :)

So as long as I take my mot with me and point it out. No test :)

The MX5 braided brake line will fit with a spacing washer, a bit of filing on the bracket mount on the bulkhead - that\'s about it.   The stupid thing is I can\'t remember if it was a front or rear line that I used.

my car is still having a bit of trouble,
everything else seems good and ok so i cleaned / wire brushed the dizzy and found that the electrodes are pretty knackered,
is that what can cause unstable idle?
anybody know where i can get hold of a new one or have one spare?
thanks.
