Had a clear out of parts from the shed last weekend.... i could build another car with this lot!  This  is only 2/3rd of it too!

Still waiting for my modded fuel tank to come back from Rotomotion, in the mean time I ve tracked down some more parts i was missing including a OEM wiring loom for the roof centre console, the front wing pieces for the lower chrome side skirt trims, a better throttle peddle and some original wire looms for the front wing indicators!

SSScoupe

Done a bit more today :)

Got the fuel tank back from Rotomotion... they have done a good job getting rid of the dead wasps and re welding in a half inch pick up!

My dad lining up the new Gilmer drive pulleys!

pulley all in :)

After tracking down an OEM roof harness, thought it be best to wire it in before fitting new head lining!

New headlining pretty much in.... just needs trimming to size.

Went to replace a bulb and saw something that shouldn\'t be in there....

No sure how he snuck in!!

After a bit of head scratching and going through the parts in the shed, I came across some RX7 FC coils, crank angle sensor and a few other bits.   After reading this http://www.ausrotary.com/viewtopic.php?t=96724 it became apparent that a Direct Fire Ignition system was possible using my exist shed parts.... only problem was I whilst i understood the thread, I wasn\'t exactly sure where to begin!

So after a few messages to Bumpstart, a big contributor to the DFI thread above, he came over to mine and set me up the DFI system.  This should allow my car to run a spark almost twice as fat as the original ( Rotary\'s like this :) ) and combined with the locked dizzy and a few other tweeks, should help keep the car running right a high rpm!

Not finished yet but it does produce a damn good spark!

Brett

Looks really good :)

Can\'t wait to see a video of it running :)

There is some really good write ups on DIF setup in the 1st gen section of RX7club. I went down the ecu route in the end because only one spark plug was firing.

such flattering pics of the wiring dogs breakfast
.. i assure everyone its temporary pending a spending spree on some connectors and some new wire and a bit more time
just doing what needs to be done atm twitching old stuff together to get it mobile pending a real clean up
meanwhile hopefully things will clean up a little bit under some clip on conduits

.. time and previous owners havent been kind to the loom on this side and i have to do a quick replication of the various ignition and cranking and fan relays
.. along with the external reg and rats nest harness delete

dizzy has been partially locked.. its mech curve has been roughly halved and allows aggressive setting of the base timing suit the half BP
unfortunately no spare dead modules where avail to junction box the connections
and so instead we have remote mounted all three j109s closer to the coils ala s1 dizzy style
two ex FC trailing coils are now individually direct to the leading plugs and a HEC715 bosch coil drives the trailing through the original cap and button for correct phasing

fuel tank is modded for 1/2 inch pickup ( predictably old was blocked with wasps )
and pending some 1/2 inch or -8 fuel line and setting up a real bypass fuel system , its nearly ready to get serious about making it run properly

Thanks guys, yes getting there! Yes should have been clear that this is no way finished... shots are showing part of the way through!! But am really pleased with the work done so far, and once i ve got a few more parts together ( fuel regulator, 1/2" fuel line, pressure gauge, fittings etc) Bumpstart will finish the electrical work and set up the fueling and hope the car should be ready to get started properly!!  More pictures of the finished wiring and fuel set up to come.... :yes

I really need to get my ass out to Aus and take a look at the toys out there :D

Ha yes there is some good rota\'s here and in NZ! :mmmm

Finally the extra parts are arriving!  Got some carb fitttings from //www.gogear.com who sell speedflow products

Also picked up a Procomp fuel regulator

A little fuel pressure gauge to set up the reg with

And the all important Aeroflow 1/2" Fuel line!

Finished fitting the headlining too...
Dosen\'t photo too well for some reason but what a pig that was to fit!  Glad it\'s over with!!

Fuel line stretched out ready for action!

Trolley jack was playing up so resorted to my 4x4 jack!

New fuel hose in tank for pump and breathers

Bowl of expensive fittings at the ready....

Relays re-wired and wiring tidyied up...

Adjustable temp switch wired in to relays for the fans...

And a little breather added for good measure!
Next step to clean filings out of the new hard fuel lines, get some spanners that actually fit the anodised fuel line fixings and get the mounted!

Another stack of good work carried out by bumpstart ( with a little assistance from me !).... getting excited now as won\'t be long to get started on running the engine in  ;D

SSScoupe

The fuel lines were completed along with the fitting of the regulator and pressure gauge.... they were like this for about an hour.... then i pressure tested them and almost all leaked!  Quick trip to the auto store for some paste and then....

Straight back off again!

You can see the sealer in this one and it works like a dream.

Got the car started off a tow again, and this time Bumpstart got to drive it around the block.  Even with the carb being incorrectly jetted and set up, the car pulls pretty hard and revs sweetly.... i\'m getting excited now as i can\'t wait for the test runs to begin!

But for now....

Carb is back off to take to the carby specialist for correct jetting.  They should be here next week.  I ve ordered some decent NGK plugs for good measure from the local bike shop.

In the mean time, i dug out my badges...

My dad got his level etc out and began making holes!

Bumpstart setting the engine idle.... at 1700rpm :) only a base tune as yet to jet the carb and engine has now done 2kms!! Goes surprisingly well though considering!  Should be pretty quick once the run in has begun and the jets and tubes swapped for best performance!

The video above came after... :)

bumpstart

still idling with a little bit of the progression circuit exposed so methinks you will be up for the f9/70 idle jet ..
but the ignition sounds crisp all the way though and it goes well up top despite current jetting that is maybe a little on the lean side
 ( methinks its is currently f11, 190 fuel. 180 air on 40 choke )

give it some run time and then we shall try new air and fuel jet combos that are a bit more realistic for the engine , possibly a play with the Etube set as well
,.. its suck see and black magic from here
