ah still a pain in the backside then! but must mean a electronic set up is legal?

The electronic set up is legal because it\'s an electronic control of a mechanical brake.  I think the hydraulic brake set up falls foul of the direct mechanical action bit of the MOT regulations.

yeh but i spoke with 2 MOT stations and they ssaid thats fine having a hydraulic hand brake as long as when its pulled it locks 2 wheels and doesnt move.

I understood that the issue with a hydraulic handbrake is that if the brake lines fail then you lose all braking, with a mechanical handbrake you\'ve still got the ability to apply the brakes.

going back to the passat its a handbrake that is wound up by a stong electronic motor. if the battery does go flat the EPB can be un-wound using a special tool.
