Hi All,

I have had a member on the phone who is fully renovating a Jan 1983 car.

He is a little concerned that he has no oil cooler fitted, and wishes to care for his freshly built WGT engine by making sure his model did come without an oil cooler.

Can you help with info and pictures for me please to pass on, anyone?

Hi Clive ,
Some gen 1\'s came with a water cooled oil cooler,it is like a concertina under the oil filter housing on the back of the engine.
Looking down on it it is diamond shaped and made of metal painted black.
The radiator should be full length.
Kind regards
Carl

Thanks Carl,

All this chap has is a link pipe from the front to the back of the engine that he says does look original.

He has been told by someone ( not Pip) that if he runs his engine like this on a rotary he will destroy his engine.

a 1983 car should have an air cooled oil cooler but If someones been swapping bits around thats not much to go on. As carl said the oil cooler is just below the oil filter on the late cars.

I would guess the above is true about destroying the engine, someone mentioned that over 1/3 of the cooling capacity is provided by the oil.

Carl

Rotors are cooled internaly by the oil.
Mike is right that about 1/3rd of the cooling for the engine is done by the oil.
Best bet is to speak to Pip about it.
Kind regards
Carl
