Right this is my 1st thread so bare with me on this 1 !
I have a fairly standard fd, on my way back from being a spectator at a track day down lydden hill 2 & half months ago the car jus felt odd, seemed as tho it had a really big flat spot between accelerating & decelerating !
Since that point i have changed the down pipe (Make : \'TOP FUEL\' or something like that) at the same point i found the ceramic in the cat was loose & on closer inspection after cutting it open most of the ceramic was missing !
So i have have replaced the cat & the whole system including the blits nur spec catback has all been wrapped in heat wrap.
I have also replaced all the rats nest with new vacuum hoses, new viton check valves, few coolant pipes, secondhand aftermarket ht leads, second hand air pump as managed to break the old one whilst removing due to a snapped bolt, & whilst this was being done i had the turbo y pipes, manifold & throttle unit polished.
After all this i finally managed to get it all up & running, started 1st time, test drove was fantastic drove perfect, very smooth !
Couple of concerns, one of which being is that there is a little bit of smoke coming from the exhaust on start up (white smoke) & main concern the front turbo & o2 sensor end of downpipe is glowing orange only after it has been running on idle for between 5 & 10 mins after about 15 mins it seems to disappear ?

I am currently wondering if its because of the heat wrap ?

Any ideas would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks, Cris.

Could be the leading coil, do you have an Apexi ECU fitted?

Nope jus tha original ecu, it is idling abit high around 1400 but im gunna adjust that tonight. Other than that it runs better tha ever.

Glowing manifold on idle is an indication of ignition issue, check your coils are working correctly plus all the lines and plugs.

with regards to you running a aftermarket downpipe and decat pipe on a stock ecu, you are essentially driving a ticking time bomb. The stock ecu cannot deal with those modification combined, the fueling is not sufficient, whilst your car may feel more responsive, it is running leaner and will eventually pop. If i have read wrong and you still have a cat then you could be ok.

Best solution is to get a apexi power fc and get it mapped. Its a bit of an outlay but its less than a rebuild. :Hammer

Thanks for the info, I will check the coil packs tomorrow as its pub night tonight, in reguards to the exhaust system I am still running a cat as the plan is to get a power fc, if one pops up for a reasonable price I may buy one. Until that time I will carry on being a careful driver.

Cool ldt me know as I may b interested, in the mean tym I will check the ignit
ion system.

Thought I would let ppl know tha out come, the ignition system was fine, even better since I purchased a power fc !
But initialy cured tha original fault by raising tha height of my aftermaket ast, as tha cooling system had an air lock.
Thanks 4 tha advice.

The replacement cat you fitted deffo wasnt blocked up was it. ime a restriction in the exhaust is the biggest cause of this. To be 100% remove the cat and leave it open then try your warm up.

Dont take it for a mega loud blast though as it will run lean and possibly pop
