Hi everyone, I am currently installing a kg parts secondary fuel rail on my FD with the Bosch 1600 injectors.
I am looking for some advice, the collars that come with the kit that go into the lim, how far in do they need to be pushed in, is it so they are flush with the top of the hole in the lim, or do they need pushing in as far as they will go?
Any advice would be a great help, I have been looking on other forums and the Internet and it seems different people have different opinions on it, I want to make sure I dont get any fuel leaks and have a fire.

they will only go as far in as the rail pushes them cause of the feet on the rail

Hi there,

I have installed 1680 Bosch injectors on my FC, it needs to be flush else it won\'t fit correctly, you may have to remove the LIM injector diffusers (brittle plastic inserts in the LIM) I had to on mine to get them to fit correctly. I then had to fit a new rubber gromit below the collars to get the correct height and seal - I also put some black silicone between the LIM and collar to avoid any air/fuel leaks.

This is the rail INCORRECTLY fitted - you can see the collars - this is before removing the diffuser

This is the rail CORRECTLY fitted - order goes LIM, rubber gromit, collar, injector, rail

I believe with smaller injectors like the 800cc injectors they will just drop straight in due to them being the same size as OEM, the 1680s seem to be slightly differently shaped meaning that they don\'t seat correctly with the OEM setup and need a bit more room to fit hence the need to remove the diffusers.

That is what I have found on an FC, with an FD it might be different, but I am guessing its the same due to the LIMs being the same sort of setup so you may have to remove the diffusers.

Note on the diffusers - they are made from plastic and can shatter, if they shatter the plastic will drop down into the engine meaning you will need to remove:

Exhaust
Turbo
Air pump assembly
LIM

Just to get to the engine to fish anything out, I managed to remove mine using an L shaped pick so you can lip under the diffuser and pull upwards (careful of the diffuser part that is thin) Here is how I did it:

Spray with WD40 around the end of the diffuser
Use a sharp pick to scrape around the very edge of the diffuser from the top where it meets the LIM wall (to remove any lip left there)
Place an L shaped pick inbetween 1 set of \'legs\' holding the diffuser plate
Pull upwards gently
Put the L shaped pick in the slot opposite and pull upwards
The diffuser should gradually edge out, the key is to make sure that there isn\'t a lip or anything restricting the movement out the LIM

Hope that helps :)

That\'s brilliant m1tch, just one more question, what are the rubber grommits that go between the lim and the collar, is it the rubber grommit that sits on top of the diffuser on the standard set up?

No problem, I would recon its pretty much the same on an FD, but try and test fit everything dry before removing the diffusers, these are the grommets I mean:

So yes, they are the thicker grommets that sit just above the diffusers, they usually seal the injector to the LIM, but in this case it will seal the LIM with the collar and also space it correctly - with no diffuser or grommet the collar would sit too low and you wouldn\'t get a good seal between the injector and collar.

Its best to double check everything on your car though, but just be aware you may need to remove the diffuser - I didn\'t even know I needed a collar when I started to put the injectors and rail in lol

Thanks again m1tch, the ones I have look different to those these are what mine look like.

Do you think these will do the same job, they are quite soft rubber.

Hmm those look like what is usually fitted to the top of my OEM injectors, perhaps check install pics on FDuk or something, the FC has the more sensible top feed injectors as OEM, the FD has to upgrade to top feed so there might be a slightly different grommet needed due to the change from side to top feed. I don\'t see why that wouldn\'t work though if its fitted to the bottom of the FD OEM injectors, but just double check, the grommet will be more like a spacer and a seal for the collar and then the injector seals to the collar instead of the LIM.
