Hi to all,
Guessing this is the part where I am supposed to introduce myself and talk a bit about me so you all can judge and poke and prod lol.
To start I am new to the whole rotary engine and Mazda period. I have no knowledge of them what-so- ever so since I am in the market for one thought that this should be my point of entry into the rotary world. I have learned the hard way to learn about something prior to getting involved in it. I am a big Supra enthusiast have built and destroyed 5 of them in the past 3 years. So in a nutshell I got it to where I could tear down and replace a head gasket in under 3 hours which is pretty bad. LOL I am still in the process of building one up and the other half’s Supra decided to conk out about 3 weeks ago and we decided that it was time to let it go considering that the thing has had 2 motors dropped in it in the past 2 years. So being the nice guy that I am I decided to give her mine so I could move on to something different and maybe a bit more challenging? That was when I decided that a rotary engine would be an excellent one to start on.
I don’t know a thing about the rotary and I am after an RX-7 just not sure of the generation that it is just know that it is the one that is sexy and bubbly (like I like my women). I have been looking around for one for a while now just the Supra blowing the motor pushed me over the edge. I am in the market for one that is as near to unmolested as possible. Oh and it has to be black. Don’t know if they make them in aero top but that would be a plus for me.  I have been looking at a few of them and the ones that I seen was way to tacky for my taste, used for drifting and then put back together to sell on. So I am thinking that it is going to be hard to find one like I am looking for. I have even broadened my horizon by having a few friends start looking out for one for me in Japan. Maybe I can get a hold of one that the tin worm has not got a hold of. Lol.
About myself now. I am an F15-E Jet Engine Mechanic (I hate my job) and I have recently been married. Don’t know for how much longer. I am guessing that she thought that once I married her that I would stop tinkering with my toys (she thought wrong). I told her it is the only thing that keeps me sane well besides drinking redbull and the large amounts of Canadian Whiskey.  I love messing with cars. Don’t know how many times I have told her I would get rid of her before the Supra. LOL. She don’t think it’s too funny. I am also a gamer as well when the weather is not to nice. XBOX before any of you ask. I enjoy that fact that my bank account details haven’t been ripped yet (Way to go Sony).
I know this is a lot of info for one to take in but hey how else do you get to know about other people.

Welcome to MRC mate. Just a piece of advice, you are not far from blowing a Rotary if you drove it like you drove your supra :). However, good things about rotaries are, once they are done "right". They can be more reliable than 2JZ.

I tested my fate 4 times and blew them each time :(. Clearly, it was due to my fault :( :( :(. However, since I have done it right, I am sure I will have many years of fun out of it.

These are great machines and no doubt rotaries can beat 2jz without being pushed to the limits.

I seriously hope that you find a nice example.

Best of Luck

Mir

Hey Clutch, I am a newbie too but I am literally 10mins down the road from you in Thetford. I am picking up my RX8 R3 on Saturday from Mazda Northampton Motors, but have had many MX5\'s until now. We will have to meet up, there are Japanese car meets every wednesday in Thetford or hook up on base as I am Armed forces too! It\'s a small world, i think I have seen all of your supra\'s in the driveway when I went to see a buddy in Red Lodge. I was suitably impressed :D
