How do you fit a gen 3 tps sensor?

My old one broke and i have my new one, now i can get it to fit like the last one?

Any special techniques?

Cheers

Is the TPS sensor when moved supposed to open/close the butterflys to let air in?

davehg

No it controls voltage to the ecu etc
There are performance cars and then there is the RX-7...........

12.3 second 1/4 mile, terminal speed of 122mph (1st ever drag run on a TO4R)

engine built by....... umm me! now powered by a T51 Kai......

Mikey22

Well not quite sure what happened with my old tps because if i moved it up it opened the butterfly. Not by much but a noticable amount.

davehg

I do recall it\'s attached to the same rod as the secondary butterflies but I haven\'t had one apart for a few years. It needs setting between a specific voltage range

If you\'ve got the fsm, it\'s in there

that things are supposed to be a nightmare to set up right, so be patient

If im really honest i just want somewhere to start ha ha.
All ive done is placed the sensor on the TB and put the screws in. Ive made sure its facing the right way but thats it. Ive not tightened anything up as i want it to move to i can get the voltage right.

I just simply cant get the car started as not enough air getting into chamber i dont think.

Should the car be able to start with the butterflies nearly closed on the TB?

davehg

Ifs not within the require parameters the car may think it\'s on full throttle so won\'t start as its trying to pump in lots of fuel. Use the apexi controller to check the values

Funny you should say that as each time i try to start it smells like pure unleaded coming out of the exhaust.

Ill check the apexi next time to see if it can give me a visual aid

davehg

it wont throw up an error you just need to find the voltage readings it needs to be within and set it to that by turning the TPS and screwing it into that position.

You have to spin the tps so it connects with the 2 lugs before bolting it up

Mikey22

Thanks for all your help. Must admit i didnt spin the tps so that could be why its not firing up. Last time i spun it must have done it too far as when i went to bolt it up it opened the throttle.

Its a little picky this one ha ha

JayDee

From memory if you start with the tps at 12 o clock then rotate it towards the passenger side you should feel it come under some tension where you will be able to bolt it up.

Cheers Jay, I\'ll take off the TB and give it a try tonight. So there should only be a 90 degree turn.
