Selling my 92 K reg import RX7, in Pearlescent yellow, it has covered 90k miles, has a full 12 months MOT and 6 Months Tax. I have owned the car since 2003 and have used it strictly for weekend (Sunday morning drives). Since 2003 it has covered 8289 miles. It has been looked after with virtually no expense spared when it has come to repairs and maintenance. It has been garaged every night since the day I bought it. The paint is the original and it in very good condition (this is a 20 year old car) no poor re-sprays etc, there is some stone chipping on the lower areas, to be expected for this age car. The car is in original condition, no body kits, wings, spoilers, gauges, aftermarket add-ons, remaps, it’s original as Mazda intended as it left the factory in Japan. I don’t think there are many about that are this original and in this type of condition.

I had the engine rebuilt in 2004 by Hayward Rotary at the cost of £3200. Since then it has covered 5636 miles. The Speedo was converted to miles when it was imported into the country (2002) so the following lists the miles it has covered each year since. As you can see it drives very few miles each year. Last year the back shocks and suspension mounts were replaced. All the tyres were replaced in 2008. It has an unused spare in the boot and comes with the original lightweight tool kit and jack. New battery in March.

2002   116240km Odometer converted to Miles (72228 Miles)
2003   126242 (82187 Miles)
2004   128895 (84840 Miles)
2005   130284 (86229 Miles)
2007   131862 (87807 Miles)
2008   132475 (88420 Miles)
2009   133196 (89141 Miles)
2010   134054 (89999 Miles)
2011   134531 (90476 Miles)

The reason I am selling the car is that I just don’t get to use the car like I used to due to a back injury. As you can see it has been driven less and less each year.

What I would and would not recommend if you are interested in this car……I have got to know this car very well over the years, as I have said it’s been maintained at great expense to keep it in good running order. So here are the home truths about RX7’s (no offence RX7 owners)…. It’s not for the faint hearted, it’s very fast 286BHP in a very light weight body. It’s great fun to drive but should not be considered an everyday drivers car. The suspension is hard, it’s not the easiest to drive in traffic, a nightmare in the wet  and the MPG is appalling. I would in no way recommend this for your daily commute. Yes it would be fun but consider something more suitable and sustainable (I also have a Cooper S that I use as a commuting car). The RX needs looking after, regular oil changes and servicing, super unleaded petrol and to be driven with respect.

(again no offence) Although I have decided it’s time to sell I will only sell to the right person I don\'t need the money but would like the space for a new project. This is an enthusiast’s car, I wouldn’t like to think it’s going to have a silly body kit and a ridiculous amount of power extracted from the engine. This should only be considered as a weekend car….I’m doing you a favour here.

The bad points, there are some stone chips on the lower areas of the body (its 20 years old) but the paint is in tip top condition and shines beautifully when parked in the sun. The Air con does work but needs pumping up as there must be a leak somewhere, (it last 3 â€" 4 weeks).

I have some high res photographs here:-

Email me if you want some of a specific area. Happy to give test drives but don’t expect to be driving it. Well that’s it any questions let me know. The car is located about 5 miles from the M25 just off the A2 near Dartford, Kent.

I\'m thinking in the region of £6K but open to sensible offers. Not sure where I should price this so advice would be apriciated.

Thanks
Steve

Mate I love it, very nice and tidy and yellow is so rare (original). My own FD got stolen over the weekend and damaged and I\'m devastated I may have to get it patched up (non original paint). I like my cars standard (within reason) and this really appeals to me.

Depending on the outcome of the damage to my car and what insurance decides (write off or repair) I could very well be in contact.

I think pricing is fair, but current market is horrible (hence I had no intention to sell my own and again am really upset it\'s been damaged given what insurance may call \'market value\').

Anyway it\'s nice to see such an original car and I agree FD RX-7\'s are not really daily friendly commute cars. Weekend / Track warriors more like.

All depends on your back mate....i suffer to and had to sell a vx220 as that thing had me speed dialing the chiropractor after an hour!!! and i know longer ride a motorbike ( i fell off ...hence back back)I have NO problem in the rx7, I\'d  say comparable to any other low slung coupe, the Seller may have trouble getting in and out etc.

Hi All, sorry for not getting back sooner, the bad back thing is on going with me....two operations so far, I think I am sorted now but only time will tell. The problem I have is getting in and out of the thing, simple when its on the drive but you have to be a contortionist when its parked in the garage! Driving it is no problem the seats are comfortable and soften the the blows from the hard suspension!

Gav240z,

Gutted to hear the news on your car being stolen, I hope you get it sorted out. Let me know how you get on. I know what you mean about the market being horrible I might stick it on piston heads at 5K as there hasn\'t been a great deal of interest so far. Maybe I will keep it for another year to see how things develop.

Does anyone think the RX will appreciate in value over the coming years?

I very much doubt it, as many of its predecessors haven\'t increased in value at all, although saying that, any car in mint, untouched, original condition will fetch a handsome sum if the right person is interested. A collector or enthusiast may pay more for this. If I was you get it out there and get it seen on the web and you should generate the interest but don\'t let it go for anything less than your happy with :) good luck with sale, nice to see an rx in factory condition :D

The Type RZ, RS-R and Spirits will go up if left completely standard as they were limited runs of cars.

Then the type RS\'s will probably go up but not as much as the others, then again the while marquee might appreciate as it does have a bit of a cult following now.
Why its good to do your homework of "specialists"

I think it\'s going to take another 10 years for them to start to appreciate in value. Right now they are at their low point value wise.

As all the other modded / crashed and abused examples fade to dust the original condition cars will be quite rare and hard to find.

They are certainly not as appreciated in Europe as they are in the USA or Australia. Just take a look at market values over there to get an idea.
