As a member if a skyline forum. Lots of bonnets have flipped up at speed causing lots of damage.

Will it be the same for Rx7s?

Just thought I\'d ask before I make a choice on drilling holes in a bonnet.

Oh, and what do you use to protect the carbon from fading?

If you change from a standard bumper to say a C West front then you will get a whole lot more air in and even the standrard bonnet will flex such that you can see it lift (at speeds over 70mph) in relation to the wings.

So if the bumper is non standard and youve got a carbon/fibreglass bonnet, pins are essential.

Mine are ethier side of the rear of the headlamps cos there\'s room underneath to fix the studs to.

Cheers Batman.. Dont suppose you have any pics of where you bolted the sticky thingy.. And underside of the bonnet where the catches are..

Thanks

yes i cant take some but the easyest place is where the mushroom is for the bonnet hight adjustment

#11
instructions .
1 remove the mushroom.
2 add the stick thingy into the hole and adjust to roughly the right height .
3 bolt into place then lower bonnet gently onto pin top mark area where pin hits bonnet
4 drill slowly the wrong way through the bonnet ie upwards using your marker underneath dont push let the drill do the work to much force will crack the carbon and spider fractures will spread through the bonnet the air inside the crack will spread badly as when the weave is formed the bonnet is under a vacum.!!!!
5 place the aero catch template on the top of the bonnet and mark the inner ring of the template .!! NOT THE OUTER RING OR YOUR CATCH WILL FALL ALL THE WAY THROUGH !!!!
6 mark your holes for the bolts in the aero catch and drill the holes again slowly
7 throw away the rust tastic bolts supplyed and buy some proper stainless nuts and bolts alan key ones look mint
8 bolt in catches and slowly close onto the pins any tapping adjustment can be made here so the pin enters the catch smoothly.
9 cut off the excess pin underneath.
10 oil catched regularly to avoid sticking .

that should help

Awesome thanks!!

Do you mean throw away the pins nuts and spacers? And buy some decent aerocatch screws?

What sizes are the screws and nuts??

Looking at this one

nope that kits fine the pin bolts and washers are fine but the smaller bolts for the catch itself are crap mild steel think there an m6 maybe m4 but buy some stainless ones they get alot of weathering
the rubber pipe bits are for sleaving the pin so you cut to the desired hight that the bonnet will sit .
you can see them sitting on my pic
