What is the R and F for on top off the rotor housing, been looking at mine tonight and the blown 1 was marked as R but was at front and the back 1 was marked as F.
does it make any difference what way they go. and could you use 2 Fs on an engine as long as you get rotors the right way round, thanks

Ricco_04

I was led to believe they where front and back as there are actually 2 different part numbers for F&R housings.  Dont actually know if there is a difference, probably not (or just to designate one has F and the other has R stamped on it!!)

When you have the air pump working, air is sent down through the housings and out the exhaust.
If you fit the housings the wrong way round, the holes are in the wrong place. They can be machined to sort this.
If you have no air pump then you don\'t need to worry.
I finished rebuilding my engine when I noticed mine were the wrong way round:Hammer
Luckily I don\'t have the air pump fitted

Thanks guys

when i stripped my engine my front had blown, so got hold of a front rotor and housing, only to notice when cleaning then up a bit, iv got 2 fs now :(
cant see no difference between them so is it ok to use 2 fs on same engine

philiwily

It depends on wether you have an air pump fitted. If you look at the two holes under the exhaust port you will notice one is blocked on a F and the other is blocked on a R.

Yep as Philwilly says it\'s for port air, air is fed from the manifold, through the centre iron and into the exhaust sleeves when the airpump system is working.

I believe the coolant passages are also shaped, so not sure what effect having them the wrong way around will do, but can\'t be optimal.

im not running the air pump any more.
and ill check the coolant passages to see if there is any difference.
thanks

It is not an issue having the rotor housings the way you have other than if you are running an air pump for emmisions, also housings only need a slight mod to run either way if still using an air pump.
As for coolant it makes no difference.
Hope that helps.
