Hey Everyone! - From Swansea & Copenhagen!

Hi Guys!,

New to the forum but always been a lover of the old RX-7, always seemed a unique car and i think now is the time to try and get one!

At the moment im working away in Copenhagen, Denmark, but normally im actually in Swansea, wales. once im done in mid may, i hope to get an RX-7.

Being 25 with only 1 year ncb, im looking to get one of the older, series 1 or 2 cars, should be quite a departure from driving my MK4 golf TDI!

So, thats it really! im after a project car (read that as cheap as can be), and im also interested in potentially LPG\'ing it up after seeing some interesting threads on an aussie forum, so any info on that would be much appreciated!

Suggest you could review any of Shaunwil\'s early posts on here. (Look in 1st Generation Section).

He runs an LPG 1st Generation car as a daily driver, very successfully I believe.

plenty of cheap 1st gens pop up on ebay Oli but they often need either lots of time or Â£Â£Â£Â£Â£Â£Â£\'s spending on them.... or usually both

But never lived very long in Swansea cos I was brought up in Hong Kong:bandit
Yep plenty of old classic RX7s around but watch out as the others said may need right lots of Â£s and :InLove to own one. Well worth it.

Know the place well, been living on the various streets of Mount Pleasant for years (Norfolk Street, Woodlands Terrace etc....)

Thanks for the info guys! ive seen shaunwills thread with his LPG\'d RX7, looks like it took a while to achieve but has worked for him in the end! - its still something i really want to look into, but was wondereing if there were any LPG conversion companies that specialized in rotaries.

Also, in terms of repair/restoration costs, what am i looking at? im used to being able to find every part under the sun for my golf at relatively cheap prices from scrappies and parts merchants, but whats the parts market like for the earlier RX\'es?

Looking through the FAQ\'s and things ive seen quite a bit of mention to do with rust, is this the big killer of these early cars? ive been chatting with a guy whos had one for the last 15 years, but its been in a lockup unmoved for the best part of a decade and he\'s looking to get rid of it now, anything i should be especially wary of on old barn finds?

I\'m recommissioning a 1st gen that\'s been stored for nearly 20 years.
Luckily it has zero structural rust but due to storage, I\'ve had to renew alll the hydraulics ( clutch and brake) fuel system inc carb, bushes etc...

This car is very unusual in that it genuinely only needs a light recommission.....most barn finds are total money pits

that is one exceptional find there Ian, if only im so lucky (and i doubt it!) - im eager to buy a car that i can tinker away at myself, rather than have to take to my mechanic etc everytime something goes wrong!

is there quite a parts market available for me to replace some of the more perishable items?

Within this club, Ian\'s specific 1st Gen club and EXXile club we figure we can source anything. There are UK suppliers of common parts for street runners and in addition loads of parts to mod with can be sourced from UK, US, Aus or NZ.

Very cool! good to know if and inevitably when i need parts! - its a shame how little of these cars i see nowadays. growing up as a lad around london i remember seeing loads of these and the old Celica-Supras (Another car i am keen to try and get before they are all consigned to the scrap) around town, but its been months since i saw an FB. i blame that stupid scrappage scheme!!!!
