Been talking to a chap thats trying to sell this RX-7,

Only pic i have at the moment, and really dont know anything about the car, other than its been in storage for best part of a decade, but ran first time when given a start last week.

Anyone know of this car at all? also, anything i should be particularly aware of if i do go and take an investigate?

Cheers,

It was first registered on 28.10.1982 which makes it a 1st generation series 2 car.

Download this free guide on where they rust ( which is the biggest problem)

I thought it was white from the pic but it\'s not, its Maya Gold.

So is this the Lancashire car on Car and Classic? If so it was up for sale as a dry-stored car on there in 2009 and I think also in 2011.

ohh.............thats pretty awesome actually!
when i get some more info from the guy ill add it to the post!

EDIT: Just wanted to ask another question thats only just come to mind - whats it being a tall driver in these cars? im 6\'3/6\'4, so am i going to be getting friction burn from the roof lining?

David Nock (RIP)

Sounds like a different motor then. The Lancashire one is back on the Car & Classic website at the moment......you\'ll see they\'re similar write ups. Long store for both. I had no Reg plate for the Lancs one, that\'s why I was trying to work it out.

I think you\'ll be fine with the seating.....hopefully someone tall will be along to confirm that but I have to sit in the drivers seat chocked up at the back \'cos my missus is quite small. I\'m 5\' 8" but the extra throw of the chocks means I\'d be massively clear of the roof if the seat was sitting flat on it\'s rails. Best I can advise, sorry.

just to add my boring old two pennorth to the rust guide, for heaven\'s sake look inside the back wheel arches at the reinforcing plates for the axle ties. Also under the back sills. I\'d guess just about all 1st Gens that are laid up are off road as a result of body problems in these areas.

Good Luck......

Being tall in a 1st gen isn\'t a problem - I\'m 6\'3" and have no issues :wave

Sweet, chees brett! on the other end of the scale, both my best mate and gf are rather small characters, how small are those back seats? am i better thinking of them as extra storage rather than passenger holds?

Yep. About 5/10 miles is about all one person can take - and that\'s stuck in there sideways. Normally no belts in there either.

i wonder if anyones ever tried converting the rear seats into some kind of single seater chaise long (if thats how you spell it) could look quite cool and you would have a unique 3 seater car :)

My kids were fine in the back until they got to be 10 or 12 years old, then they didn\'t really fit. Over the ten years they did fit, I fitted Kiddie seats initially, then Booster seats with harnesses, then got some lap strap only belts from somewhere and put them in - no drilling required for any of this, proper mounting points were already there.

Also no legroom behind a tall driver (my wife is 5ft 5in so they were OK behind her, but not my 5ft 11in...).

Steve A fitted in the back for a demo drive last summer - remember that Steve? - but I can\'t say he looked "comfortable"...

Nice idea!  Or maybe put a bucket seat in sideways?

Sadly I think that between the crossmember at the front of the rear seat, the transmission tunnel, the wheelarch and the gently lowering roof line there isn\'t really much hope....

I did at one time think the Americans had got a good idea in their "luggage bins and a long flat load bay" design. A couple of sets of bins have turned up over the years, but having tried driving around with the seat down for a few weeks as an experiment last summer, I can vouch that if you do an emergency stop with something loose in the back, it gets up to quite a speed as it flies past your ear and crashes into the dashboard....

Another (possibly...) good idea from America is fitting (very) big speakers where the rear seats go. However I am definitely too old to recommend that.

Haha yeah I do. I remeber brake tests and flat spotted tyres more! haha :3gears-lh

I\'m 5\'7 and I managed in the back of Johns for about 40mins. I survived, but I wouldn\'t say if was comfy. Being sat behind a 6\'4 front seat passenger didn\'t help!

A couple of my friends (6ftish and 5\'3 or similar) managed to sit in the back for about an hour each way going to a gig last year. Luckily they are a couple or it might have been a bit \'cosy\' but they survived.

Likewise it\'s amazing who\'s willing to sit in the back when it means a free lift home from the pub rather than a walk in the January rain......
