So I need a 76mm air filter? I\'m sorry if I\'m a little thick about this, but could you explain it a little more for me.

No you want 62mm the 76mm outlet connects to the turbo inlet duct.

I win for my 2.5" guess :Giggle

TiddlesRX7

No Ben you need the narrow end (inlet).

I don\'t need to upgrade my stock turbo to beat your ass!

Get your finger out, get it on the road and start driving it then!!! (B.Martin 25/2/12)

Ah right, gotcha. Thanks guys.

Prof

Yep - Narrow end  - the HKS kit has a larger sized filter, and has a small reducer onto the airflow meter - I think that\'s where people get confused.

I think 62mm is something like 2.375 inches or something similar, but calc says 2.44 inches

Alright guys, hope all is well.

I\'m now the owner of an HKS induction kit, i\'ve measured it up and the filter end is 95mm. Reading through this thread again i\'ve confused myself, the AFM end is 62mm right?

I know its written above but whilst searching for reducer hoses and adapter kits i came accross some original HKS adapter items that claim the adapter kit is for an inlet size of 70mm on all RX-7\'s?

Here is the site i got the info from - http://www.horsepowerfreaks.com/partdetails/HKS/Intakes/Air_Filter_Adapters//1754

I\'m just not sure about it now, i found some AFM adapters on ebay for the FC that look like this?

I just don\'t get how it all works i\'m afraid and of course i don\'t want to buy the wrong thing, i though the AFM connection was circular like the air filter connection and that a simple reducer hose would sort it no problem. I\'m trying to get the sizes right so i can get colour coded hoses to match everything else in the engine bay! I can provide some pics of the air filter if needed so everyone can join in the puzzle :)

Thanks for any potential help.

That adaptor would be for the EGI or flapper style air flow meter, not the turbo II, you need something like below (although make sure you get the right reduction!)

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SILICONE-REDUCER-HOSE-76MM-95MM-3-3-75-BLUE-/230535818512?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item35ad016d10

Look up \'hose reducer\' do the HKS mushrooms really have such a massive outlet?

B.Martin

Here is the filter upside down (mesh and foam removed)

This is with the little extension bit removed as well.

And this is the extension bit its self, which doesn\'t reduce at all ;)

It\'s such a difference between what is more or less 100mm and the 63mm! That\'s why I\'m just checking on that as 62 seems very small and hpf offered adapters for 70mm to fit rx7 afm\'s! I don\'t really want to be removing the air box to measure it all up, at the same time
I don\'t want Mr Prof to think I am calling him incorrect, I am just asking for confirmation as it doesn\'t seem to add up.

:o

Thats just a very big filter lol the OEM air flow meter is the next restriction after the S bend in the induction pipe, they aren\'t usually as massive as that:

Next you will be asking for prof to come and fit it for you...

Wouldn\'t it be easier for you to take a measuring stick and measure the pipe in your car or, alternatively you could do some simple math by measuring the circumference of said pipe with a bit of string, measure that piece of string, and use the equation where C (circumference) = 3.142(aka known as pie) x diameter

So your equation would be diameter = circumference (length of string) diverse by 3.142 (pie) this would tell you your exact outside diameter of pipe so you know you are right.

B.Martin

I\'ll just remove the airbox and measure it, i was just trying to avoid doing it thats all.
