RX8s don\'t trouble noise meters unless their exhaust is a 3" tube from the manifold back.  Mine registers about 90 db on static tests and has never caught the attention of the noise police on track and it\'s not the quietest system.  Because they\'ve got minimal port overlap, all the bang happens in the block and not in the exhaust.  The most noise you get from them is transient noises from opening or closing the throttle.

Apparently putting details of your car spec in your signature means the nice folks on exile-rotorsport think you\'re a fool.  I can think of no higher compliment!

thanks for the response!

Yep we normally get laughed at by the noise test guys...
the guys at Brands last year didnt even bother with the meter when i weant to test.
and i am not exactly a quiet 8

Correct me if im wrong but the testers dont take it to the correct rev limit on the rex either when I got tested last time he only had me upto 5k I think which I thought was a bit low but  wasnt gonna argue.

This is true however at the kind of throttle opening you need to get up to really high revs when stationary you\'re not going to trouble the noise meters either.

I went to the open day ......and they apply a 1.5 coefficient factor to a rotary so 1950cc equivalent which puts it in class A not class D ! bit miffed at mo.  Did not say that in the regs only stated coefficient factor for turbo or supercharged. And also the 1800 cc class D limit is likely to decrease by 2014.

I\'ve given it lots of thought and this car is not gonna be raced, it\'s just wont be competitive enough in Class A.  Really wanted it to happen but would not be placed in class D...now looking a class A maybe a Cupra but really gonna see if i can stretch to Mazda 3 MPS poss find an accident damaged car cat C something like that.
Anyway cars on Piston Heads no issues PERIOD rebuilt engine new leads, coils plugs, 12 months mot No advisorys etc.Currently using and loving it as my daily driver. Offered it to my wife but she loves her MR2 roadster.

That\'s a shame :(  I was looking forward to seeing you enter a race series and following your progress. Oh well, you can always bring it along to one of our trackdays instead to have some fun :)

If i still have was gonna put round COOMBE on the spring action day but hope it\'s gone by then as looking for an 3 mps. Not bothering with class D especially as there gonna drop the CC to an as yet unknown number in the next few years.

Bump this up.

Subject - Brakes. What are they like after some abuse? i currently have stock braking system and looking to upgrade. to start im thinking some braided lines laer upgrade to some hawk ceramic pads.

What do you lot think?

Dan

Hi Dan,

Stock brakes aren\'t bad with a good set of pads, but not the Hawk ceramics as these are not intended for hard/track use as they will fade like made and are just intended as sort of a fast road pad that won\'t produce dust and keep your wheels clean
All the best Clive

Dan507

ohh. thanks for that. what pads would you suggest?

clive

What are you going to use the car for, just road or road and track
All the best Clive

Dan507

Road and tack. but its going to get alot of punishment around track and on the road.

Where Clives Rx8 Race car Project thread? Been searching and cant find????
Clive....
What lap times with those new pads where you doing? and realistically what hypothetical times could a race prepped Rx8 do round combe....I so wanna race a rotor but i cant afford to compete in the special GT series in combe.

1.20 just seems to big a challenge.

Our brief chat has re-ignited my desire to race a Rotor!!! Can i take it to Class A guys in Tin tops?
