My car has been at the specialists having some \'small\' upgrades, 3 days work:

Full stainless steel de-cat, stainless steel sports silencer with twin rotor shaped tail ends, racing beat air flow modded to shape onto new stainless steel charge cooler, new k&n air filter, electric front heated windscreen, oil change and a couple other small improvements and repairs.

Huge improvement to the horses :cool and very loud :chat

I also got some goodyear ultragrip 7+ winter tyres, not put on yet as I am waiting for the snow...;)

Mean intercooler, not chargecooler.

So did you do all that on a standard ECU?

wolfie1

winter tyres are beneficial to you when the temperature drops to 7c and below, not only when its snowing

rx7.eu

Same ECU, no need for ECU upgrade because something with the wastegate/actuator and something else were changed/modified. I do not know what exactly was done as it was a little trade secret accumulated after many years of experience.

I tell you the work and performance is impressive. Not only was there a hugh power increase but it runs more smoothly at low revs.

I agree about the winter tyres, I have had winter tyres on my SLK since Oct 2011. Have been using winter tyres for many years because I worked and lived in cold Switzerland. May fit them to the RX7 next week if the weather really gets cold. Meanwhile the Falkens I have on are good enough.

Some one has ported the wastgate, if it doesnt hold and the boost creeps say bye to the engine. Id advise your next buy to be a apexi power fc.

wolfie1

hmmm, just watch yourself!

Thanks for the warnings.

I checked with the senior engineer (30 years experience) who did the work and he assured me they did other changes/modifications and this is not necessary. However I shall look out for one..... but they seem rather expensive so I will wait a little later, perhaps end of next month next salary. I may actually go for a Haltech unit.

Call me sad, but Im quite taken with the rotary shaped tips :)

wolfie1

i really like that rotor brake light for the rx8, just wish there was something similair for the fd!

skybusr34

full respect to your engineer, but as others have said dude. i would be extremely nervous about planting the loud pedal if i was you without an ecu with map to suit.

but i fear............

"think i lost a tip "   thread starting by you soon :-(

good mods there. and a map would extract more hoomph out of them:yes
if i had 8 hour to cut down a tree. i`d spend 6 sharpening the axe

dthebuk

if its dave at rotechniks chances are he\'s right. he knows his stuff

\'91 FC TII - Drifter... Under construction :D

Thanks again, I love the rotor tails cos its very different, and sadly but perhaps more suited to old boring grown ups like me!
Yes it was Dave who did all the work, I asked for him due to strong recommendations. He actually spent three and half days on the car this week, but there is still a little more work for him to do next week. I hope he will also do the ECU and twin turbo upgrades to get a little extra ooomph. I also fancy some new wheels like an Enkei make which I was about to buy some second hands from a nice helpful guy who owns rx7spares but I decided I will will wait a little as money is tight.
